"I grew up with a number of flying monkeys," he told her with a small smile, which was the answer he was sticking to.

His time at the Girardi's hadn't been particularly unpleasant. They required little of him, when it came right down to it, and the normality of the whole thing was almost refreshing. He'd known enough students at Fandom who were from worlds like this that he was able to pretend well enough. It was a slightly uncomfortable mask, one that chafed at the edges, but he thought it had gone relatively well.

"They're fine. I wonder if they think I'm odd."

Joan shrugged. "They think I'm odd, so it doesn't really matter. I mean, Kevin said you must be crazy if you can put up with me."

"I don't recall defending my sanity," he admitted with a little smirk.

"I didn't think it was proper to lie to your family, is all," he insisted in an infinitely reasonable tone.

Joan fake-pouted at him.

Liir was utterly unmoved by her pouting. Ino was his heart sibling, after all. He was well practiced.

"Well, you like me. That's never a sign of sanity."

"Hmm, guess you have a point," she teased. "So, what movie should we watch?"

"Probably best if we stick to the ones about Christmas," he said loftily, eying her sideways with mock suspicion.

Joan beamed at him. Innocently. "We can do that. How about Christmas Vacation? It's about this completely bizarre family."

"I have no objection," he admitted as he leaned back into the seat.

"Though you don't mind if I get bored and start asking you questions in the middle, do you?"

"Of course not," she said, getting up to put the movie in.

She settled back on the couch and grabbed the remote. "I'm glad you came to spend the holidays with me."

Liir was struck somewhat dumb by that. It was, after all, the latest in a string of incidents which involved people being glad that he was around. They always confused him, always, but when it involved something so intrinsically linked with the family, and when he'd actually been invited to her world and her home...

He felt odd. He felt as if he should be thanking her.

"I'm glad I came to spend the holidays with you."

Joan smiled and leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Oh, that reminds me," she said, sliding off the sofa and walking over to the tree. "I have a little something else for you. But I wanted to wait until we were alone."

He blinked and wondered what it could be. She'd already gotten him any number of very useful impliments for the kitchen...

"Here," she said, handing him a small box. "I hope you like it."

There was a small paper tucked inside the box explaining the chakras.
