Cold, coughing and stressed

Still here.  I've been battling my semi-annual sinus infection/bronchitis combo and trying to deal with mom's estate.  Despite going through it herself when dad died,  mom did not have a will.  The surrogate's court ".. must be bonded..."   My brother applied for bond.  The insurance company turned him down.  So we redo all the the paperwork that had been done to that point with my name substituted for his and reapply.  The insurance company decided I was acceptable.  So I am now the administrator and have to deal with stuff.

Major annoyance of this is the investment guy.  We opened an estate account at the bank.  They closed mom's bank accounts and deposited the money to the estate account.  No real problem (other than yet more time off work to go to the bank).   We told them we wanted to close the investment account and have that money made available to do really frivolous things like pay some of the bills.   Bank guy called investment guys.  They said fax us X, Y & Z.  Bank guys pulled forms up, they got filled out and faxed to investment guys.  That was September 14th.  It takes more than a week  and repeated calls from us before investment guy contacts us. And then it was while I was out to lunch.  This is when for the first time we are told that we have to open an investment estate account.  This guy calls me on my  lunch hour the next day to do the paperwork.   His five or ten minutes takes half of my lunch hour and then the fax of what I'm supposed to sign and fax back doesn't start to show up until after my lunch is over.  The fax cover said itr was a 26 page document but I only received 25.   I did not have a chance to read a 26 page document that afternoon.  I did not have a ride home that night and therefore got home late. That was the 24th. Investment guy had  told me that he wouldn't be in on Friday the 25th.  Monday the 28th I had one of those days at work where all I wanted to do at break and lunch was totally veg.  Actually I spent part of that trying trying to be cooler. The temps in the office that day hit 80.F. Much more ranting about investment guy not entered so I don't have to type it and remember it.

We might actually have the money moved to the bank account by the week of the 12th.  But I'm not holding my breath.  In the meantime we're cold because we're nearly out of oil.  We'd like to keep hot water for a while longer so we're not turning the heat on.  The oil company got a bit more than half of the remaining balance today and will have the rest either next pay or possibly split between the next two pays.   Fortunately the three of us can stand it colder than mom could.

And if the Republican candidate for governor gets in I may not have a job to worry about anymore.  He wants to eliminate massive numbers of state employees.  I don't know who he thinks will actually do the work if he does.  My building is already most of the way to a skeleton staff.  i.e. We can get the work done but if more than one person is on vacation or sick or otherwise out we better pray for a slow day.
