So you've lost your compass, your GPS don't work, there are no landmarks, it's too early in the day for stars... how do you find east/west?
You will need:
A stick. That's it.
Step One: Plant your stick upright in the ground on a flat patch of land.
Step Two: Mark with an X on the ground the point where the shadow of the stick ends.
Step Three: Wait 10 minutes, then mark the point where the shadow is now.
Step four: Draw a line on the ground between the two marks. The first mark is west, the second is east, the line is direction either way.
