Where are they now?

A reader asks, "Where are the members of the Order of the Air now? I mean in 2014."

Well, all of the original members are no longer the same people, as the youngest of them was born in 1897! I don't know where their current incarnations are, frankly. Perhaps it will become clear as we go.

But some of the younger characters in the story are still with us, so here's a quick look.

Douglas Sorley, 86, lives in the Ala Moana Acres assisted living community on the Big Island of Hawaii with his wife, Mei-Lan. He is a retired commercial fisherman, park ranger, and merchant seaman. Their daughter, Crystal, 46, was recently elected to the Hawaii state House of Representatives.

Alice Elizabeth Sorley Turner, 69, also known as Astrea Astarte, is a retired social worker and a priestess and elder in the Cycladic Tradition. She lives in New Mexico with her life partner Steve, four cats, and an Australian shepherd named Sabe. She was originally initiated in the Alexandrian Tradition, and she lectures and teaches frequently, as well as spending time with her three grandsons.

Evzenie Czornik, 45, is the owner of Star Treatment catering in Prague, in the Czech Republic. Star Treatment specializes in backstage catering for rock concerts, large sporting events, major musical competitions and performances, and other celebrity events. Her website shows her being embraced by Paul McCartney, backstage at Eurovision, with Vanessa Paradis, and being thanked by Angelina Jolie. She is also the mother of a teenage daughter who Tumbles under the name andthepartyelk, and whose first pro story was just accepted by an editor who thought she was eighteen.

Michelle Pazzano, 51, lives in Nashville, TN where she works as an attorney on behalf of independent artists after resigning as a senior litigator for the RIAA in 2005. She has had the tattoo of a bat removed from the back of her right hand, but she has a triple moon on her upper back. She is a graduate of Columbia University Law School and the Goth/Punk scene. Her son, Sidney Lewis Davies, 15, intends to apply to the Air Force Academy.

Sophie Lorenz-Bitburger, 71, is a Judge of the Federal Court of Justice of Germany. She is known as a tight constructionist who interprets each law as narrowly as possible. Before her appointment in 2001, she had been known primarily for her legal work around reunification. She lives in Karlsruhe with her husband of forty two years. She has two daughters and three grandchildren.

Merilee Sorley Shaffer, 78, is the owner of Colorado Star Aviation Inc in Colorado Springs. Colorado Star provides air transportation to Aspen, Telluride, and ski resorts that have runways too short for most commercial aircraft. Merilee no longer flies commercially herself, though she does fly recreationally and in airshows where she demonstrates a classic restored Jenny biplane, callsign Cherry.

So what do you guys think? Questions? Thoughts?
