My parents were planning on coming over in two weeks - to visit me and my brother. This Wednesday they came up with an idea to pack in a car with them (and my dog) also my grandfather (mom's dad), his wife and my grandmother (dad's mom), travel slower this time (spend the night at the German border) and then spend 3,5 days at our places. All of them. 5 extra people (older!) and a dog. I have a studio of 40m2, one double bed and an unfoldable couch on which even I won't manage to sleep comfortably. My brother has more space - two whole rooms (yay!), but also only one double bed and a small couch. Needless to say I foresaw some problems with accommodation. Everyone aside me is of an opinion, however, that comfort is not the most important thing in life and that good relations in a family are more important. I thought that to keep these good relations it would be better to get at least one hotel room. They had the majority.
My mom just sent me a loooong email with her calculations as to costs and what they might want to do when. Detailed plans as to every day: where to go, what to see, etc. The email ends with one sentence: "Your dad's plans: spend all three days at a canal in Amsterdam, drinking". That made me laugh.
