Today I got up around 8:30 and got started on the porch lamp fixture. Yesterday I had dad check out the wiring with me and we determined that while it was done a little strangely, it was still mostly correct. I did swap a couple of wires to make it more closely resemble a standard configuration, and then this morning I used a short length of 3-conductor wire to bring the circuit through the mounting block so that the finished product looks (and should function) like what you'd expect. I cleaned things up around the box and sprayed some bug barrier in between the box and the siding area. I let it dry while I sprayed around the rest of the foundation of the house, and then came back and applied caulk around the box to seal it up against the original siding. I also applied some caulk to try and seal a bit between to old siding and the HardiePlank, then I applied caulk to the back of the mounting block (except for the bottom edge, which was left caulk-free to aid in drainage should moisture somehow make its way into the box) and secured it into place. I cleaned up the caulk around the edges and it should be ready to paint and install the lamp now. I've still got to clean up the lamp itself though, at least as much as possible.
I took care of a few other small things around the house and cleaned up a bit, then I sprayed some weed-killer on the greenery that's covering the middle of the burn pile. Hopefully that will help out when I try to regroup and get another fire going.
Right now I'm back at the parents' house getting some more of my stuff to take down to the house, doing some laundry, and going to take a nap. Later on I will probably head back to Jones Creek and try to clean up some cabinets and dishes and start putting away the kitchenware.
Update [23:09]: Well, apparently I was more exhausted than I had realized and my nap lasted about 6 hours. I've decided to just do some various gathering of items here at the parents' house and I will wait till tomorrow to go back to Jones Creek and clean up the kitchen.
