128 Scout - Day 10: Back to the grindstone

Jun 18, 2015 23:59

I was hoping to get the plumbing for the toilet in the main bathroom buttoned up today, but no such luck. Before I could drill the pilot holes for the new anchor bolts for the toilet closet flange, I had to chisel away some grout and concrete so that the flange could sit level.  Then I had to chisel away more material so that the drill bit could get started on a somewhat level surface to prevent "walking" of the bit. While doing these things, I ran into more than a few rocks (which are significantly harder and stronger than the concrete) embedded in the concrete.  Finally I did get all of the pilot holes started, however there appears to be a rock below the surface on at least two of the holes, and possibly a third.  I ended up dulling both of the drill bits that I had before getting very far on two of the holes, so that's pretty much all I could do tonight.  I will pick up some new drill bits and some longer bolts (which may be necessary because of how much material had to be chipped away) and try again later I guess.

I tested the hot water portion of the washing machine and it seems to flow fairly well, though not quite as well as the cold. It started off great but then sort of choked off a little bit, so I'm thinking that some more rust gunk may have broken free in the plumbing and partially blocked the strainer on the back of the machine again.  When I have some free time I will pull the hose and clean it out again.

Oh yeah, and I picked up a 24' extension ladder for the shop at Lowes.
