Today after work I got my dad to come out to the house with me and help me out with my plumbing concerns. We shut off the water to the house, drained the lines, and began to disassemble the toilet. After assessing what we had and putting together a list of what we needed (new shutoff valves for both toilets, new drainstop assemblies for both sinks, new tank hardware for the 2nd bathroom toilet), we went to Home Depot and picked up the items in question. Got back to the house and began to install the new stuff, only to run into obstacles. The new valve for the 2nd bathroom toilet could not go on yet because of how the original had been installed and not having the tools to modify the existing parts coming out of the wall. The new valve for the master bathroom toilet could not be installed because we had purchased a 3/8"NPT valve (based on the 2nd bathroom's valve) but it needed a 1/2"NPT valve. The toilet hardware could not be installed because the toilet was not a standard 2" bowl/tank but instead was a 3" design. We decided to call it a night and not to mess with the drain stops yet. Got all the wrong items swapped out just before Home Depot closed, so I will get started on it all again tomorrow after work.
