hey, good question. livejustin November 11 2003, 16:29:05 UTC
well, It seems to me that you have the King James version in mind. I admit there may have been some errors in the original King James translation, perhaps due to the "guidlines of a major ruler" but wouldn't that mean the "numerous revisions" would be a good thing? (the revisions, made in 1612, 1613, 1616, 1629, 1638, 1660, 1683, 1727,1762, 1769, and 1873, were corrections in translation errors found. I'm not sure of King James' lifespan, but I doubt you can accredit all of these revisions as new attempts to meet his "guidlines" -i might be missunderstanding you on this) I personally don't read from the King James version, and I don't recommend it because of the slight errors in translation (I'm not aware of any 'major' problems in the translation, if you know of any, let me know) and also because of the language being generally hard to read. but try a the New American Standard version, which is probably the most literally accurate english translation, and the NIV is probably the second most that I know of. there's a lot to be said about whether we can trust the Bible as the word of God. there are good reasons to trust it's text as being credible as far as historical accuracy, but to believe whether it's the word of God? well first you have to believe in God. I think that questions opens a can of worms that may not be appropriate for a livejournal entry. but just to let you know, you say "Objective thought is healthy when it concerns things like religion." -I agree 100%
