And it's over. For the third time, another school year at GHS has fizzled to a close. Granted, the close of this year only holds the prospect of a fun-filled summer, but still.
They tell us that school is all about learning. School is supposed to teach us how to read and write, add and subtract, and what the charge is on a phosphate ion. Somehow, though, I always seem to learn things that will not help me pass the Chemistry exam.
This year I got over Tate. That in and of itself is huge seeing as I've been in love with him since before I can remember.
Suddenly, I was hurled headfirst into the world of rap music, cars, underage drinking, and fluent cursing. I met people who actually used the words 'fer rizzle' and 'holla' in everyday sentences...and liked them. Grades became less important and finding Deric Cook (who drove the blazer on 20's) became top on my priority list. Amber was my bestfriendforever and she told me everything about why she broke up with Eric and I consoled her and gave her advice.
That was, of course, at the beginning of the Ben Saga. That's probably the biggest story of the school year. It took Amber 2 weeks to get me to say 'hi' to him and it took 2 seconds to destroy it all.
Just as before I've learned who I can trust, now I've learned who I cannot trust...and that's most people.
I met friends I'll never be able to live without, I've had and lost my First Love, pulled grades out of the gutter, and ended up in May exactly like I always end up in May. A little tired from the grade-pulling with high hopes for the 2 months ahead.
It's almost over, though. I can't believe we're seniors. I guess that means that somewhere between the Anti-Christ notes, Mr. Hosier, Stalker Boy (later changed his name to Ben), New Year's Eve kisses and roses on Valentine's Day, white Ford Explorers on 20's and Rangers with no backseat, prom dresses and tanning beds, South Carolina and Florida, breakups and breakdowns, tuna and gorillas, we grew up.
That just goes to show you what I've believed all along. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
So this is to you, '06, get piss drunk and dance on tables, steal cones from construction zones, and live and love like you're never going to get hurt again. But mostly live. Remember Florida, the end of innocence, and 20's. Always remember the 20's.
wow that was epic
