It's been a few days, but the prophet has died.

This is particularly sad for me because he was the leader for me in my adolesence and into my adulthood. I don't remember President Kimball at all, though he was the prophet when I was a young girl. President Hinckley was my prophet, simply because he was the prophet when I gained a testimony for myself. His words filled me and warmed my heart and touched my mind. I'm sure there are many people who feel like I do...he was beloved by many, those who sustained him as a prophet and no.

He was talented and stalwart, and real. He made us all laugh and try a little harder. He opened the world's eyes to us and, perhaps, laid many misconceptions about Mormonism to rest. We're all truly blessed to have had such a wonderful and loving prophet.

So...since he was 97 years old when he died, there is a "Hinckley Challenge" going on to read the Book Of Mormon in 97 days. A few years ago he challenged all Latter Day Saints to read the Book of Mormon in one year. I accepted this new , "Hinckley Challenge," with a lot of enthusiasm, mostly because I'd like to honor him.  There's a site you can go join that will log your reading and show you how others are doing. As of 8:00 tonight, there are 22,640 people who have signed up and accepted the challenge. How amazing is that?! It makes my heart swell to know how many lives he has touched. I suspect the numbers will continue to climb. I love the Book of Mormon. Really.
