Okay. So, I've had mixed feelings about "Dollhouse" because it is basically an in-depth exploration of the concept of moral-relativism and there are no real "good-guys". That being said, last night's episode was both the most brutal, horrific, and terrifying episode, and also, in my opinion, the best episode so far.
In season 1 I loved to loathe Topher, but this season I am learning just to LOVE love him, period. Especially after last night. So Joss is doing it again. He's taking a concept that I was very iffy about (I felt the same way about Buffy to begin with) and drawing me in.
Yet, as with the original airing of "Firefly," the ratings are in the crapper. But if this were on cable, the ratings would be considered decent.
So here is my helpful suggestion to Mr. Whedon:
After "Dollhouse" is canceled at the end of this season (which it WILL be), please sign a 1-3 show development deal with the SyFy channel.
I'm sure that it could be proved that fans of all things Whedon and fans of SyFy hour-long series have a huge crossover. I bet tons of Buffy/Angel/Firefly/Dr. Horrible fans are also fans of the various Stargate franchises, and/or Farscape, and/or Battlestar Galactica, and/or Eureka. Plus, Whedon has proved that he can do great things with the kind of low budgets that SyFy shows traditionally have. And he wouldn't have to settle for a second rate cast, because SyFy shows have attracted some high-quality and/or well-known actors. (Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Robert Carlyle, Ming Na, Lou Diamond Phillips, Beau Bridges, etc.)
On SyFy Whedon would find a very friendly home for the snarky and witty urban fantasy and science fantasy that he made famous, instead of the cheap imitations SyFy is churning out (Warehouse 13, I'm looking at you!). And on SyFy his shows would probably get runs of anywhere from 40-80 episodes, rather then the measly 13-26 he's been getting on Fox.
So please, SyFy executives and Joss Whedon--sit down. Have lunch. Toss around some ideas. And sign a development deal. It's a win-win, trust me.
