blogathon

(No, I'm not doing Blogathon... you didn't miss anything. lordandrei is, though. It's proved fairly entertaining so far, and I'm sure will get more so as the day wears on.)

I struggle with the motivational psychology of [$thing]athons, whether it be a 5k run or a blogathon or - whatever, there are some truly weird ones out there. ( Why, you may ask? )

blogathon, psychology, sociology, brains

too many choices forces the brain give up and choose nothing

Yeah, I know this feeling, 'specially when it comes to the clean, put away, dishes, other housework chore dilemma...when it's easier not to choose but open up a book to read...and get lost for hours rather than having to decide where to begin (b'c it canNOT all get done, even though it MUST, eventually...'cept then it needs doing AGAIN later, so why bother, 'cept I know why).

I find it easier when someone else has nudged just a bit, so I don't have to choose really, I just go where the drifts and currents take me, thus being able to clicky-clicky easily and support someone else's efforts for an organization I firmly support (albeit usually in theory more than in practice). It might be trickier were I to know a ton of folks supporting a mess of diff things 'n' stuff, but since it's (right now) just one, it's not difficult to choose NOW as time to put some money where my mouth (or at least brain) is, so others can choose where to put their ovaries to work (or not).

It gets back to the basic something's better than nothing...baby steps're progress even if not "enough."
