Now that I'm feeling a bit better

I want to vent about something that's bothered me for quite some time: what became of class and style?

Look at any award show, music program, "reality" show, primetime series...ah hell, just go look out in your own neighborhood. What do you see? A near and almost-total lack of class. Girls are running around in low-cut tube tops and booty shorts, guys are walking around acting hard with baggy clothes I hope they trip over, and people go around airing their dirty laundry in front of strangers. In entertainment, yes, sex sells. But is that really any reason to expose your naughty bits in front of millions? I'm looking at you, Britney -glares- I saw an ad for this show called "Hellcats". Apparently, it's about cheerleaders. How are they portrayed? Abnormally thin, short-as-all-get-out skirts, low riders, and cleavage galore. I'm not a fan of cheerleaders, but I know that not a one in their right mind would go around wearing crap like that and call themselves a "serious cheerleader".

What became of the society where modesty was okay and not looked down upon like every girl who didn't dress herself like a sex toy was inferior or insecure? When did styles like this

and this

get replaced with this

and this

I'm not saying we all revert back to the 30s or 50s and whatnot (mainly because I like my non-white friends and being able to vote), but at least learn from those times about what it meant to present yourself in front of people. You know, when you actually left the house feeling like an attractive, intelligent, good person instead of a slutty asshole? I don't really believe in the saying "the clothes make the man" because they are some people who are very bright and good-hearted that don't always dress....normally, but it sure doesn't hurt your public image to at least look like you put thought into what you're wearing.

I really want a couple of dresses in the 50s and 60s styles because I really like the nostalgia and the fact that it's so different to what is produced and worn today. But I do admit to being a little apprehensive about wearing them in public because of how I'll be looked at. I get enough of the "it's not Halloween yet" when I wear cosplays, I don't particularly want that in "normal" clothes. Although, it would be funny as hell to wear a gingham dress into Home Depot xDDD

What was I saying?

.............

I forgot. Anyway, it makes me a bit sad to see that class and dignity and self-respect have gone so far by the wayside now. In music or film, it seems that the least-dressed person gets the most attention, no matter how horrible they are at their jobs or how awful they look and come across on camera. While the more modestly-dressed, thoughtful people are either ignored or called out on how "homely" they appear and treated differently than anyone else. Kelly Clarkson was targeted because of her weight when she first started making albums. She is NOT freakin' fat. I would kill to have her waist size. And yet she was flat-out asked why she dressed more modestly than other would-be singers. Uh, maybe because she didn't feel the need to parade her body around like a piece of meat? Or that she didn't need to cover up her voice by distracting people with her navel and breasts?

I'm rambling again. Anyway! Yeah, I wish style and class would make a comeback in our society,

movies, fred astaire, diginity, social issues, film, celebrities, music, style, celebrity, clothes, class, entertainment, clothing, society, ginger rogers, fashion, grace, audrey hepburn, lil wayne, paris hilton
