Last week I sent a (very) lengthy email to ReelzChannel, a TV network dedicated to movies and news about them. It's a pretty good station, having whole shows on cinema news and updates and possibilities, a show that's just trailers for movies, games, and TV shows, another show with music videos from movies, and other things (in addition to the ocassional movie itself). In my email I vented about two things:
1) The plasticity of their hosts. They have a show called Hollywood Dailies (a news show for movies, basically) and two main hosts, Matt and Steph. If anyone has the channel, check out the show at some point. Those two are painfully stiff and fake. I explained to the channel that there is no way in hell those two can be so happy and excited about every little piece of news they report. Are you really that excited about a thirty-minute short film made by someone in his basement when he was 10? No, you're not. So stop acting like it. Just be honest and truthful.
2) This took up the majority of my email: I resent the fact that Twilight gets more coverage on that channel than any other franchise. It has its own fuckin' show! Twilight Weekly or some shit. Then they try and sneak in things called "Twilight Tidbits" during commercials or Dailies. It makes me cringe and I can already feel my eye twitching just typing about it. When this craze is over, I guarantee you no one is going to remember it past either utter crap made to make money (somehow) or a bubblegum flick meant to keep your girlfriend happy (God knows why she tries to liken herself and you to Edward and Bella, two emotional unbalanced dicks who apparently have stalker fetishes).
I'm rambling; I need to stop.
Anyway, those were my two main points of concern with the network. The next morning I get an email back from them saying they appreciate the thoughts of fans like me and wanted to send me a ReelzChanel gift pack including a book by Leonard Maltin (a critic who I've enjoyed since I first saw him open up each Little Rascals short.......don't judge me :p). I was totally up for that! I just wanted to be sure my concerns were passed along and taken to heart by the executives and programming people.
A week later (now), I'd almost forgotten about their offer until a FedEx truck pulls up to my house. I was like, O_O.
I got the offered gift pack, and it did indeed include Leonard Maltin's book (which talks about a few of my favorite movies like Mirrormask and Devil's Backbone), a bookmark, chapstick, popcorn (?), and a nifty pen. All but the book stamped with the ReelzChannel logo and stuff.
It is awesome! To be honest, I never even expected a reply from anyone at the channel. So to be offered and ACTUALLY SENT a gift pack is a pretty good feeling! And all for just being a fan of films and having actual opinions on them and how they're presented to audiences through mediums like ReelzChannel.
Shoot, if I live in New Mexico (where it's located) I'd apply for a job there doing.....something. Anything, really. I've loved movies since I was tiny and it pains me to see all the hype given to crapfests (-cough-Twilight-cough-) while genuinely good and great movies and franchises are neglected.
Take a lesson, all you people with repressed opinions on stuff: every now and then someone listens. So don't hold it in until your head explodes like a quesadilla in the microwave. Cuz that's just icky. And no one is going to clean up after you.
