Three days to go!!
It's a little frightening, but a whole lot more exciting =) I talked to Anna in London today, which got both my butterflies and adrenaline movin. Actually, I know several people studying abroad this semester. Jessie, Czarina, Ryan, Anna, .. and me, which may or may not count. ;o)
I have nothing to adventurous to post about. I mean.. I haven't even left yet. But.. I thought it would be funny to share some of the advice I've gotten this year. Everyone seems to have something to say or advice to give about the upcoming trip, whether or not they've been to Australia. I don't mind at all. In fact, it's been very helpful and often highly amusing.
So.. here's a peek at what some of my friends/family thought. I won't even charge you the penny ;o)
Emily (fellow camp counselor): Don't give the thumbs up sign. Apparently, it has quite a different meaning in Australia. Not real sure on this one, but I'll be sure to keep my thumbs nice and close until I know otherwise. I think there was something else.. but you might have to remind me Em.
My S.U. Boss (who used to live in Adelaide): Don't eat the mayo!! (haha.. ) Don't use the word napkin at the dinner table. It doesn't quite mean light-weight paper that you can wipe your face on, but rather.. something you use in the bathroom. >_< She also raved about how repulsive vegemite was.. but I'll give that a fair shot.
Bobby (my new friend from Flinders): Do everything with a smile, and you'll be ok. (in response to my worries about flying alone) Good Advice!. and he also said to hang out with as many Australians as possible.
Dad:
He gives really helpful advice. Details that I didn't think of.. like, bring a power strip so you don't have to buy multiple converters (brilliant!).. or make sure the credit/debit your using doesn't charge you an exchange rate. I don't think I'd even be going without my Dad's help, and I mean that beyond the financial aspect of things.
Anne (co-worker at the collegeboard): "Reinvent yourself." I like that concept.. not to it's extreme, but I do like it. don't worry.. I won't go nuts on you. =)
Jay (youth minister at Westside in Hburg): You may not want to use all that Aussie slang you've been teaching the kids since you got it off the internet. It might be the equivalent to someone coming here and saying "Yo, What's up daaawg? that's the bomb. Groovy" hahahahaha..
my personal favorite for purely humorous reasons..
Mom: (and I quote).. "Don't Fall in Love!"
me: "Whaaat?"
Mom: "I want you to come home..."
me: hahahahahahahahahahaha.. I'll try, but no promises mom. ;o)
Any Other Advice, Hints, or Help is welcome.. especially if it makes me laugh =)
Thanks for all the Advice thus Far (even if I forgot to put it in here!)
