Leviticus 19
9 When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 You shall not strip your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the alien:
My son was approached by a street person who asked if he could wash windows for money. Soon the street person was washing the windows of other local stores and now has a cheap apartment, but is at least off the street. I think Leviticus is saying that we should not be so obsessed with efficiently running our businesses that there is not a little left over for the poor and needy to gain some benefit. The store owners could have hired an efficient contractor to clean their glass.
Leviticus 19
32 You shall rise before the aged, and defer to the old;
I wonder if this admonition is based more on a sense of appreciation than wisdom. It does not say we should blindly follow the advise of the aged. Maybe it is based on the realization that we will all become "more vulnerable" as we grow old.
I Thessalonians 5
but test everything;
This is a fitting verse for me since that I earn my living from testing computer programs.
There is nothing wrong with skepticism. Blindly accepting everything by faith is not necessarily good.
