Exodus 13,14

God led the people by the roundabout way of the wilderness

Maybe when I feel that I am running in circles and not efficiently reaching my goals, I should realize that is not always bad.

And Moses took with him the bones of Joseph who had required a solemn oath of the Israelites, saying, "God will surely take notice of you, and then you must carry my bones with you from here."

Joseph had such a sense of community that even in death he wanted his remains to remain with his people.

Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, 'They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has closed in on
them.' I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them

Pharaoh saw the Israelites wandering aimlessly and took that as a sign of weakness that would allow them to be victimized. Pharaoh misjudged the importance of aimless wandering and ended up dying in battle. It is dangerous to live a life of picking fights with vulnerable people. If Pharaoh's heart was kind he would have offered these aimless lost soles a map (or better yet his GPS system) and probably died of old age many years later.
