Psalm 57

I lie down among lions that greedily devour human prey;

A Psalm written by David when he fled from a cave that King Saul was in. David, of course, had to sneak into the cave and take a souvenir one of the kings articles of clothing while the king slept.

I am reading a book titled Peacemaker in the main character, a naval officer, is accused of being a thrill seeker. David, also a warrior, seems to have a tendency to always be close to danger. Picking fights with Goliath is but one example. I can understand how someone who seeks and lives constantly with danger would believe that he is lying down with lions.

As I was resting peacefully next to Virginia last night, I tried to imagine how it would feel to lie down next to a wild creature that sought to "greedily devour human prey." Lying down in the presence of such a creature seems to denote being even more vulnerable to the impending attack.
