Yesterday
under the monkey bars,
you showed me your sports car
It was 3 feet long with plastic wheels,
and pedals that you couldn't reach.
Chasin' girls all around,
On past the see saw
and the merry-go-round.
And then we went to the swings,
I can still hear us sing:
Shoot the moon cross the sky
And say you want to spend the night
I've got bunk beds, pillows,
And a Nintendo too.
Man, those were the times,
Just me and you right on through the night
I bat my eyes when mornin' came,
And I was at a football game
Watchin' #10 catch that ball
and score for our team.
He always looked toward the sky,
And it made his Mamma proud
You could tell by the tear in her eye.
And then right after the win,
I'd look at you and we sang again:
Shoot the moon cross the sky
And say you want to spend the night
I've got bunk beds, pillows,
And a Nintendo too.
Man, those were the times,
Just me and you right on through the night
Just before it was tomorrow,
I couldn't know of my new sorrow
Because God knew that you didn't want
to see us cry.
It was 5:18 when I got the news
It was only then I realized
What I'd had to lose.
But now, I'll get to spend the night with you.
Make the bed, I'm comin' man,
Right behind you fast as I can
But I gotta do my thing here
For a little while.
Not too long from now,
I'm sure we'll shout:
Shoot the moon cross the sky
And say you want to spend the night
I've got bunk beds, pillows,
And a Nintendo too.
Man, those were the times,
Just me and you right on through the night
