*sigh* Art is frustrating

Art is so frustrating for me no matter what I do it in. Once again, I broke one of Sara's trees taking it out of the kiln, and then it didn't smoke well. Neither did any of her pots or my pieces.

Also. I made a pot for my sister-in-law. It's a flower pot in the shape of a pregnant lady. It meant a lot to me while I was making it since she's had a hell of a time getting and staying pregnant. And I'm also not even going to be there when it's going to be born. It's hard giving up these things for my future. My little niece or nephew won't really see me until they're 3. As much as I don't care for kids, the ones that are related by blood are always the most precious and wonderful things. At least I won't have to change its diaper. Heh...

But anyway, this pot I was making bisqued fine. I glazed it and sent it off to the raku kiln. It's really hard doing raku alone. It's hard to pull things out of the scorching kiln quickly with the special tongs. I grabbed her by the neck, and her head fell off. Part of her face fell off, and the glaze came out nothing like I wanted it to. So I'm going to have to work on it and give it a lot of TLC. Not that it's bad to WORK to make art perfect, it's just frustrating. Her birthday is this Sunday. Maybe MAYBE I'll get it in ok shape by then. If not, it's going to be one hell of a Mother's Day gift.

Just...frustrated and annoyed and mildly depressed over it all.

Also, in case you don't know, raku is a process where you fire the piece to insane degrees, and take it out of the kiln right after you turn it off, and then smoke it. Smoking it involves setting it in a can with newspaper and the hot clay sets the paper on fire. Lots of hot. Lots of smoke. Next time you're in front of a fire, and it's so hot it burns your eyes, that's what happened to me. I have flashing on my arm and face since the wind blew the heat directly at me 3 times. It was hot. It was really hot. In fact, if there's a hell, I imagine it's that kind of hot.
