I'm still up in Duluth, so here's the report.
Mom is still in the hospital. Not so much with the "getting hom by x-mas" for her. No, no. Seems she picked up a resistant infection, so it's taking a lot longer. It's a real double-edged sword we got workin' here; in the hospital she can be monitored closely and get all the good drugs, but at the same time it's kind of a cesspool of floating infections and junk. (and it's not because they're not careful or clean about things. that's just the way it works in a hospital)
So she had to miss out on all the x-mas festivities. Which bummed her (and me) out considerably. She's pretty depressed about the whole thing, and who can blame her? She went into the hospital for what was supposed to be an easy surgery on the 9th, and since then she's barely spent more than a day at home, and had to have an additional surgery. Sucktastic! And there's really not much we can do for her either.
I survived the chaos of the x-mas eve dinner, and without having to drink myself blind, so I'm pretty proud of myself. Dennis (mom's husband) has 3 kids and two of them came up, along with his sister (who's my oldest friend's mom, actually. he didn't make it though; had to go to the in-law's this year). One of Dennis's kids has 6 of his own, ranging from 13 to 2. Oy. That's just a whole lotta kids. Too much loud for me.
Anyhoo, my sister sent a few pics of the new baby, which I will be carting in to mom today via the joys of the laptop and auspices of the internet. Hopefully, this will cheer her up a little, and maybe with a little luck (ha!) she'll be home by the weekend.
I'm trying to keep a positive attitude about all this, especially when I'm visiting her, but it's getting hard. Everything keeps going wrong and I am not so much with the happy.
