The Play at the Plate

Yadier Molina was injured a couple of weeks ago by Ted Lilly in a collision at the plate (video at the link). Molina had the ball, blocked the baseline, and Lilly should have given up, tried to slide past, or headed back to third to generate a rundown to advance the other baserunners. I don't really blame Lilly - he's doing something that is both normal and against the rules of baseball (he's interfering with the fielder).

I sincerely hope that at some point soon MLB starts to enforce the rules on these collisions because the collision at the plate is the highest injury rate play in all of baseball. A positive outcome from such a collision is no one being injured; out or safe is a relatively minor issue in comparison.

EDIT: Yes, I support a call of obstruction against the catcher if they block the plate without having possession of the ball. I'm an equal opportunity hater of these collisions.
