WHO WATCHES THE WATCHMEN?
Howdy, friends. as of the writing of this, the Watchmen movie is Five Days, Zero Hours, Thirty Four minutes and Fifty seconds away. I am so pumped for this movie you have no idea. I didn't grow up with comic books, and even then, there is no way my parents would have allowed THAT book in the house. Until I saw the trailer in front of "The Dark Knight", All I knew about Watchmen was that it was one of the first comics to be considered Art, and earn the title "Graphic Novel" rather than "Comic Book". Once I saw the trailer, I began to actively poll my friends just as to what the hell it was. All of them who read it remarked at how hard it was to explain it to someone who never heard of it. So, a while ago, a copy of Watchmen found itself on my computer somehow magically. I read it. a month later, I read it again, and have just finished reading it a third time. I keep picking up more and more as I read it. I notice clever things, I notice stuff I never knew before. I'm even noticing parallels in today's world, and I think that this is the right time for the movie.
Five Days, Zero Hours, One minute and Fifteen Seconds. From the trailers, we can see that the look of the comic is almost unchanged, and with Snyder at the helm, We can be sure that it will be visually stunning. The problem that we run in to is best shown by the Watchmen Motion Comic, animated versions of the comic book, from panel one to the last, they use the original artwork, including the speech bubbles, so that is THE closest to a film version of watchmen anyone can get. The problem is that each chapter runs about half an hour long. twelve chapters means roughly six hours, while the actual film is only two and a half. Condensing it into that time requires a lot of cutting. Things will be left out, themes simplified, and a lot will be changed. The thing that a lot of people won't admit to on the internet, in their fanboy-ish screaming that I have been trying to avoid along with the spoilers is this. As long as the soul of the book is intact, The movie will ROCK. Keep in mind, I only read it late last year, so someone who grew up with it will be the one to make the call of being accurate. My main focus is the movie itself.

He directed the Remake of Dawn of the Dead. a movie beloved by all fans of the undead menace, and we prayed to the gods of cinema that he didn't screw it up. What did he do? he not only made a kickass movie, he added to the mythos of the Zombie itself. With 300, he proved that scantily clad men running around greased up can be a very macho thing and completely heterosexual for a man to watch, while giving the females two hours of eye candy. Not only that, but he proved the concept of comic book movies being Art. I DARE you to take one single frame of that movie and not be able to see it hanging in a museum somewhere. Seeing his directorial skills, no matter how short he has been in the business, ad in that relative unknowns are playing the roles, minimizing the chance of something taking you out of the film, I don't know how many times I am going to see this, provided I have the money.
