My advisor had an extra ticket to the
KU game last night. There was a very nice banner-raising ceremony, and Florida-Gulf Coast was no better than advertised, so the game was never close, a good time was had by all, etc.
Late in the first half, Tyrell Reed got a breakaway layup, so UFGC's
Addison Smith decided it would be a good idea to grab his shoulder, spin him around, and smash him into the floor. Luckily, Reed seems to have emerged unhurt.
Then I got home and read
this.
This play is dangerous and dirty and has no place in basketball.
The intentional foul penalty is manifestly insufficient to to stop it. It's time for the league office to step in and correct things. The play is unambiguous and unmistakable, so it should be subject to automatic review. There should be, at minimum, a multiple-game suspension.
Do it now, before the next guy breaks his neck instead of his wrist.
