Crunch time count down!

Okay, yeah, so, my plane to Dallas leaves at noon on Thursday, which means I'll have to leave around 8:30 to make it to the airport with enough time to spare. All my packing needs to be done by Wednesday night (haven't started, yet) and I want to have my apartment clean by then, too, so I don't have to come home to a mess (barely started that).

This is, of course, on top of last minute cosplay construction.

I'm starting to think cosplaying at a convention isn't complete unless you have that last-week-crunch time during which you sew/glue/dye/cut during every spare moment until you go blind or fall asleep at the work table. >.O It's stressful, but there's something oddly satisfying about seeing the costume evolve under pressure. So, for me, all I have left is the final dying/stuffing of Youji's tail (it's been soaking in the dye for days now), the little false buns for Haru's wig (to attach the pony falls to), and Haru's false corset and petticoat. I don't know why I saved them to do last, but maybe it's because one is easy and the other is damn hard. >.<

Thank GOD my Mom, aunt and grandmother were there to give me advice for the EGL costume. Mom doesn't know any more than I do about sewing --and I might know more now -- But she has a steady hand and is very good at keeping things organized and me on task. ^_^ Aunt Dana was an angel and her being a professional seamstress was a totally unexpected blessing. For the few hours I got to talk to her, she taught me what a French hem was and told me which stitch to use on what material. As for Grammy, well, she may only have helped at the end, but no one else knew how the collar of my shirt should be tightened up. ^_^ And I guess I have to thank Joel, too. Without him my dishes would never have been done during all this and he did a good job keeping me on task, too, despite how much the crunch has been cutting into any quiet time we might have had.

And, of course, I can't and won't forget sakata who not only brainstormed the ideas and designs with me, but sent me the skirt and corset patterns, along with so much stuff and advice for all my costumes. Without her, I probably would have given up ages ago. ^.^;;

EDIT: Have to add Amy onto the list now. I was right in thinking that no one else would be able to figure out buckles/straps and vinyl like she would. XD

So, 90% of my costumes are ready to go and I really believe I can finish the rest in time. After all this, though, I am going to need a serious financial break... I spent soooo much money this summer. @.@

Oh, briefly, other news! I got my hair cut short! Not uber short, but above my shoulders in floofy layers. It's weird not having all that weight at the back of my head. o.O Also, of the two new piercings I got in each ear, the top holes got infected and, after a week, I couldn't take the pain anymore so I removed them TT.TT My poor ears are all tender and swollen, but hopefully that will go down now that the earrings are gone. Keeping the second hole, though, since they seem to be all right.
