Christmas.

I don't decorate much for any given holiday. I probably would get really into it if my schedule wasn't so hectic and I had a disposable income to throw at it. I wouldn't decorate at all right now, though, if Austin wasn't so pouty about my lack of Christmas spirit. As it is, I find Christmas to be a microcosm for what's wrong with America, i.e. extreme commercialism. I mean, shoppers actually crushed a man to death last year during Black Friday at Walmart.

Which is why I'm at home baking pumpkin cookies and watching my favorite movie, which happens to be Pitch Black.

The recipe is from: http://poppytalk.blogspot.com/2010/10/hello-autumn-soft-cakey-pumpkin-cookies.html

I didn't have cardomom, so I used ginger instead, and omitted the pecans since I didn't have those either. They would have benefited from pecans, to give it some texture. They are very soft. I would like them better if they weren't so flour-y tasting, but overall they are decent cookies. Next I'm going to try this recipe: http://everybodylikessandwiches.com/2005/10/pumpkin-chocolate-chip-oatmeal-cookies/

I did decorate our mantel though with a silver and green garland from Target, and some ornaments and an ornament thingy I picked up a couple years previously at IKEA. Austin likes to joke that it's Chanukah decor since it's silver and blue. I know it seems pretty minimal, but I prefer it that way.

I also finally got an updated picture of our DIY media console since we painted over the fleshy mauve walls. I think it looks fabulous, if I do say so myself. That reminds me though, I need to finish transferring Austin's dvds to jewel cases to put in the white boxes (he threw away all of the cases when he was in Iraq).
