Realization Struck

Feb 26, 2011 11:03

Yesterday we climb Stitio Tarukan, Tarlac Philippines (near Mt. Pinatubo)
for a Relief Operation for the Ayta Community

on our way back we were told by some soldiers to wait until the bomb disposal was over
the bombs ware a "leftover" from the WW1
we eagerly waited for the blast since its our 1st time seeing an actual bomb to explode

then we heard a static countdown coming from the soldier's intercom

5 4 3 2 1 Fire in the Hole!!!!
......Kaboom!!!!

a thick cloud with fire came from the ground then deafening sound came a few seconds later
then the aftershock, the ground shook

we were all shouting, energized from the rare experience, it was kind off fun to experience it

.....

then after the sugar rush of excitement came the realization

imagine that monster of an explosion going off in a crowded street,
i just cant fathom the idea of disposing that bomb with the intention to kill,
i mean sure it was a bomb for pete's sake it was made for war, made to destroy
but at that time we just saw it for fun.... and it was fun, but what about to those people from the ww1, or from any war that is?
as they look up to see a 10 foot long bomb dropping from the sky....

why do people start a war? just to make a statement to the world that you're powerful?
