This novel, the one I chose for our major research paper (previously 10 pages. WOO!), is a gothic piece filled with dark, morbid humor and mystery. Irony is key in the humor, otherwise you will never truly find it 'funny', which it isn't. I'm not saying it's a bad book. It's not. Actually, it's a novel I found myself get more personally involved with than many others. Not only did it suck me in, but it sucked my soul, and, in my eyes, a book powerful enough to change you is a good book. During the actual time of reading, I found myself become increasingly anti-social until the plot ended. I was also very bitter, and unreflective in person, often around friends, because I was deep in thought. I'd lay in bed at night, and not sleep. Not that this isn't new, but I was evermore clear about my lack of sleep and hours stared out the window.
I think this book put me through a mild depression. Whoa.
