It's been exactly seven months since I have posted an entry on LJ. Wow!!! I guess I have been so infatuated with myspace that I totally forgot about my LJ roots *laughs* Well, I really enjoy living down south! The weather is great, people are friendly, and we're incredibly close to Nashville TN :-) We caught a show with Sara and Sean Watkins, with Luke Bulla and Byron House the other week. It was a small venue, seating about fifty people....and we sat right in the 3rd row! So many shows like that only 50 miles away. Mountain Heart is playing at the Station Inn next month, and that show will totally kick ass!
I finished my first semester at WKU, and taking 12 credits while working off your tuition isn't easy. I teach strings at several elementary schools down here, so trying to find time to write papers and do assignments is often difficult. I also have to find time to relax...watch movies, play poker, and go out too (or I'd go insane). I busted my ass though and it all paid off...I got a 4.0 and am still in one piece :-P I also played in the university orchestra, and got to play a duet with one of our guest soloists which was fun. I also conducted on the pieces on our Holiday Pops Concert....busy busy busy.
As much as we like living down here, our family and friends are just too damn far away. If everyone was down here, I'd stay in a heartbeat! VP and Carolyn are only 45 minutes away, but we are all so busy that it's so hard to find time to spend together. We had them down for dinner Monday night, and played cards which was fun! I have made a few friends at school, but I often feel as though I am in a grey area. I am "too old" to hang out with the undergraduates for the most part, and I am not to keen on hanging out with many of the faculyy members. Some of them are just boring and view me as a "student". Even though I am a Masters student, I am also working as a faculty member for the college. It's just that I am kind of stuck in the middle...If I wanted to, I could stay down here and work at the University. I miss my friends, family, and having my old job back. Even though it's a ton of work, I only have to work between two buildings....instead of teaching at seven schools with no stable classroom.
Darcy and I are heading home for the holidays tomorrow. I am very excited. I haven't seen my parenets since August 19th!! My sis came down here for Thanksgiving, and some of Darcy's buddies came down for a long weekend. I did make a suprise appearance at the Meteor Shower party which was fun! But, I have never gone for so long without seeing my family or friends from home *sigh* I am looking forward to seeing everyone over the holidays. I am hoping to have more visitors in 07 (hint hint).....
That's it for now....look for my next post in July 07 *laughs*
