so i will crosspost it

1. what song are you listening to now, or did you most recently listen to?
last song i listened to was ron sexsmith, god loves everyone

2. who gave the best live performance you've ever seen?
the pogues at the riviera in chicago, around 1991, the tour where joe strummer filled in for shane mcgowan. gets a special award for best audience, too.

3. who gave the worst live performance you've ever seen?
it may have more to do with venue than performance, actually - but i hated the red hot chili peppers at lollapalooza in - i guess it would have been 1992 or 1993? (i went to that damn festival twice.) in fact, i just hated lollapalooza, full stop.

4. do you have a favorite musician that would surprise people?
not really?

5. do you have a favorite musician that would embarass you?
i'm done being embarrassed by my one-time love for billy joel. when i was a kid, i loved his music; he was the first concert i ever went to. now, i just love it in a nostalgic way, but every so often i want to hear it. and there is this weird thing that happens to me - with alarming frequency, wherever i go in public places, i hear billy joel. i could walk in a store, and he'd come on; turn on a car radio and there he was; once, on our trip around the country in the 'stang, we were driving through the arizona desert, nothing around for miles, stopped at a little overlook. there was one other guy there, a native guy with a radio, and he was singing along to billy joel.

this probably just shows how often he's played on musak, but for a while i started to feel like billy joel was sending me a message from beyond the grave. only he's not dead.

6. which two musicians do you want to have hot, passionate sex with?
i respect them for their art, ok?

7. which musicians have you been listening to most lately?
i always listen to a lot of jets to brazil and a lot of slaid cleaves. lately i have been listening to a lot of teenage fanclub. what i have NOT been listening to a lot of lately, and this is shocking, is billy bragg. his new album is one of the biggest disappointments of my life (ok, that sounds histrionic, but seriously - i'm let down.)

8. who did your parents listen to while you were growing up?
beatles, simon and garfunkel, joe cocker. and all sorts of jazz - my dad is a huge jazz fan and collector.

9. which musicians do people say you resemble?
none, really. i've gotten joan osborne, i think just because she has curly hair. a guy at the shelter told me all the time that i looked like jewel. this is not true. he was nuts and obsessed with jewel (honest, he got a 'cease and desist' letter from her management company), so it wasn't a comparison i loved.

10. who do you need to see live before you die?
most of the bands/musicians i feel this way about are no longer together/touring/alive.
i'd really like to see weddings parties anything on their reunion tour (supposedly happening this year).
there are plenty i need to see live AGAIN before i die!

11. which musician do you find overrated?
so many. just off the top of my head i will say - clap your hands say yeah

12. what were your first three cassettes?
i'm old, remember? i mostly didn't have casettes unless they were mix tapes, i had albums. i am pretty sure that the first album i bought was the police's ghost in the machine. i SUSPECT billy joel albums (the stranger and glass houses) were probably numbers 2 and 3.

13. how many songs are on your itunes/ipod?
i don't have an ipod. maybe someday. i have a sansa mp3 player that holds about 75 songs and i just randomly dump a bunch of songs on it every week and that's what i listen to walking to school, etc...at home i listen to cds or mp3s on the computer or my discman - it is horrible to contemplate, but i don't have a stereo anymore; had to leave it in seattle when i moved over.

14. name 5 bands/musicians you think people should try:
rod picott. slaid cleaves. the frames. frank turner. the clumsy lovers.

15. put itunes on random and name the first 15 songs to play, no cheating:
i don't have itunes. i'll do this with my sansa but since it only holds 75 songs, it is not very representative...
casey neill - riffraff (oh! he should be in question 14)
great big sea - old black rum
jayhawks - last cigarette
brendan benson - maginary girl
jack ingram - still got scars
descendents - 'merican
blue rodeo - bad timing
gear daddies - drank so much (just feel stupid)
jets to brazil - you're the one that i want
blue rodeo (again) - somebody waits
everclear - american girl
dan bern - i'm not the guy
billy bragg and cara tivey - close to you
billy bragg (again) - take down the union jack
badly drawn boy - a minor incident

a song about a girl
