I didn't know who Don Carman was until I watched an old Baseball Blooper video, which didn't just include bloopers, but all sorts of baseball stats that I treasure like any old other set of statistics. On the field, he was known for his microscopic batting average, beginning his career 0-fer 48, until this game:

I found this out according to wikipedia, but perhaps
crosstables can clarify this, assuming he was into the Phillies back then.
I think this is brilliant. When I directed the Maine events, I had my announcements pretty much memorized, and I even had them in rhyme one year because it let me be more rhythmic instead of my more typical uneven speech. I'm not the most spontaneous person, so I find it easier when I know what to say ahead of time, instead of thinking right on the spot. I wonder if Don had that same problem, or if he was just sick of addressing the media. That seems like a great strategy for someone else to try out.
