Christ@Center@Huntington...or Me@Center@Me?

So, I just got off of work at 5:30pm. I had a nice dinner. My Cap'n Crunch and Golden Grahams were amazing. Friends are great.

It is powder puff season here at HU. This is a fun time for those involved. A nice time to get out of the dorm and out into the fresh air and have some friendly fun.

Or...

Consider this story:

On my to my room from the dining commons, I felt the urge to watch the powder puff game going on right now. Orange was playing purple.

My concern and the thing that has me angry right now is what I saw out on the field.

Let me preface by explaining HU a bit.

We are a Christian campus. We here at HU pride ourselves on integrating faith and learning. In fact, our motto, if you will, for this year is having Christ be the center of our lives, as individuals and as a campus. Christ@Center@Huntington. Playing off of our techie generation.

Ok, so, Christ as our center.

Two things Christ focused on, well, really, the only things He focused on in His ministry and lasting legacy.

One: Love God.

Two: Love others.

Loving others...hmmm...the first thing that pops into my mind is the Golden Rule. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." (paraphrased KJV) For those who like Scripture references: Matthew 7:12.

This is our calling and our ministry as Christians. I don't care who you are, you are called by God as a Christian to minister to others in whatever capacity you are gifted.

Including powder puff.

Ok, so, now to the story.

The orange team had the ball. They ran it up the middle. For the not-football saavy. On girl took the ball and ran it through everyone. She was just getting into the defence's secondary (halfway through) when the safety full-on tackled her. Poweder puff follows the rules of flag football: NO TACKLING!

Needless to say, the orange team was not happy and made loud contestations.

To which the purple COACH responded by yelling "YOU DID IT TO US!"

...

Are you KIDDING me!!!!!

Our focus on this campus is Christ-centeredness. How it does this behavior show that? IT DOESN'T!

This is the kind of crap that INFURIATES me. It is crap like that that gives Christians and Christ a bad name!! We are called to be more, so much more than that!!!

It's freaking powder puff for crying out loud!! This is supposed to be a fun time, not a time when we can dismiss our faith and beliefs and resort to childish behavior!

Let's pull together and support each other in our journey to Christ-centeredness. Stop undermining and undercutting everyone else's efforts. If you don't want to participate in Christ-centeredness here on campus, get out of the way. I'm sorry, but you're only hurting and hindering those who are genuinely trying.

I really hope we can take a small incident like this and re-evaluate ourselves and figure out what exactly is center of our lives, Christ or ourselves, and either make the effort to further Christ-centeredness, or back off.

That is all.
