Oh cinema my solice how you have wronged me.
I like films. I go to the cinema a lot. This week, as I had the week off to paint the house I decided to spend my late afternoons at the cinema. There was a good line up.
Jane Eyre
30 minutes or less
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Columbiana
The change up
Drive
Killer Elite
Jane Eyre. Not much to say. Slow burning, well acted, well scripted. Not the sort of thing that keeps you gripped as it was shot and directed at a far too leisurely pace. Watchable, but I'd rather read the book.
30 minutes or less. Brought to you by the director of Zombieland this film is a huge let down. All the best bits were in the trailer, and I found myself barely able to crack a smile at the rest of it. Yes it was well paced, the script was well written and I didn't find myself cringing at anything too corny which could have easiliy happened. However. Like Your Highness it relied on cheap shots and the comedy stylings of Danny McBride, who I have come to realise can only do one thing, and isn't very good at it.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Awesome cast, terrific acting, good script. All sadly let down by the direction. For a master work of suspense this had no intensity at all. I think sharper direction and editing would have increased the tension, but it left you feeling hard done by.
Columbiana. This is a little gem. I shouldn't be surprised because it is written by Luc Besson and you can see touches of the Fifth Element and Leon in it. The direction was spot on, script was crisp and well defined and the acting was good enough. He really does love his kick arse strong female leads.
Tomorrow is Killer Elite.
