craziness, turmoil and more craziness

gah. so, after running around like a chicken with its head cut off for the better part of the past month, i've found myself with a bit of a breather. t'be honest, i'm not quite sure what to do with it, as the concept of actually NOT being busy is so completely foreign i think i might need a translator to comprehend what the hell is going on. fortunately for my limited brainpower, i don't think my confusion will last too long, since summer school started on monday and i'll shortly be back to my normal routine of insanity.

but first! updates! i flippin graduated on june 11th at 4pm. now, i don't technically get my diploma and whatnot until after i finish my summer classes, but i'm banking on the assumption that i'm not going to fail anything in the upcoming month and a half, so all should go well. of course, that's also assuming i survive until july 29th, which may or may not be likely. post-graduation, meowmixxer and the always entertaining mr. bardin came down to sb for a little visit, which was fantastic as i hadn't seen either of em since graduation. y'know, from high school. tiffany and angela stayed with me for the entire week, which was also loffly since otherwise i might have been forced to drink *dundundun* ALONE. and we can't have that, oh no. i'd never realized how many board games can become drinking games in very short order with the liberal application of alcohol. good times.

sooooo, i'll bet you're all on the edges of your seats wondering what exactly i'm going to be doing in the upcoming few weeks. well, kiddles, i'll tell you - i'm going to be wishing i had massive amounts of heavy drugs, cos i'm fairly certain my life is going to be extremely not-fun for the next month and a half. i'm going to tell you all about the classes i'm taking, though, because they're all AWESOME and may very well be the only thing getting my ass through the end of july.

Psych 138 - Social Memory
Review of research and theory in social memory and its influence on interpersonal relationships, including impression formation, self-perception, and theory of mind. Emphasis on recent neuropsychological findings bearing on social memory. i lurve upper-division psych classes. this one's taught by stan klein, one of my favorite professors ever and also a pretty funny guy, which definitely helps. he likes to use his three dogs as examples for just about everything, which is happy cos doggies are cute. i hope he brings them to class sometime.

Soc 159S - Sociology of Sexual Politics
Recent approaches to the study of sexuality through the work of gay and lesbian scholars, social historians, feminists, and discourse theorists. Emphasis on recent changes in sexuality, sexual suffering, and sexual politics. seems good thus far, though the professor is a little nutty and overly obsessed with the everyone-in-the-class-must-speak-every-day bit, which ordinarily would be fine except for the fact that the class has roughly 100 people in it. he also seems rather fond of vh1 and mtv specials, which is fine by me cos hey! video days are fun for everyone.

Music 119A - Music and Politics
A study of the interaction between music and politics from the fourteenth century to the present. Includes discussion of relevant art from each period. my professor is one of those adorably dorky adults who you know never quite fit in when they were kids. she's very into her subject matter, which is always a plus because i just can't get interested in a class if the professor speaks in a monotone and looks like she'd rather be giving her cat a bath in the kitchen sink than teaching the course.

Soc 176D - Sociology of Drug Use
Deals with such topics as the demographic patterns of drug usage, socialization into and out of drug subcultures, criminalization and decriminalization of various drugs, and drugs as they pertain to women, youth, and minorities. Cross-cultural approaches to drug use and treatment modes. words cannot even describe how flipping fantastic this class is. i didn't go to lecture on monday because i was trying to crash another class, but i ultimately decided to ditch that, went to this one last night and i was completely blown away. i think this might be the greatest class i have ever taken, and i mean ever (sorry, george). i know i'm into a course when i look down at my notebook at the end of the class and realize i've taken four pages of notes - front and back. to those of you that talk to me on a regular basis, i apologize in advance for all the gushing i'll be doing about this class over the next few weeks. poor kendra got hit unawares with it last night when we went to dinner, but don't worry! the rest of you will get your chance :D

so, yay, happythings. also, i've been having good days at work, which should translate into good paychecks, and that's always a plus. my 21st birthday's in 19 days and counting, at which time i plan on getting thoroughly drunk in celebration (and of course you all should come visit and assist me in that endeavor). overlord510 left me his motorcycle, which i am slowly repairing and making all pretty, so once i find the flipping time to go get my license i'll be good to go. i've been going to the gym with jesh, so hopefully i'll be able to get my ass back into shape. life is good at the moment, and even though i foresee a great deal of stress upcoming, i think it'll all work out. i'm gonna hang on to my optimism come hell or high water, dammit, even if i need happy pills to do so.

don't look at me that way

school, lifestuff
