We might be able to get a new place. I just have to come up with $650. I've called all over the town I live in to every landlord who takes Section 8 rental assistance, and the only place that has an apartment (and a 2 bedroom at that) wants a security deposit of $650 up front. I and two social workers have been calling around to every organization that helps with these things to find the funding. I have to go to the town office tomorrow and talk to the town manager (our version of a mayor) to see if he'll grant me the deposit money plus another $144.59 to pay my old electric bill so I can get power turned on in the new place.
My Section 8 voucher is supposed to expire as of Monday, November 3, which is my birthday. Just in case I can't come up with the deposit, I called my Sect 8 worker to get an extension on my voucher. She said it wouldn't be a problem, I just need to send her all the info I gave her on the phone in writing, which I'll send her tomorrow. Well, please wish me the best of luck.
