buttons

On Wednesday, Neil Gaiman posted a link to a short promotional video that he did for the Coraline film, hosted at the Borders Backlot. It's only about two minutes long, but it's quite wonderful, both lovely and creepy at the same time. Plus he relays some information about koumpounophobes: people who have a fear of buttons.

We even had a brief Twitter conversation about it:

jelundberg @ neilhimself Very nice acting job on the Borders video, sir. Creepy as hell. Did you do it all in one take?

neilhimself @ jelundberg We did it (http://bit.ly/dqdb creepy Borders vid) all the way through about three or four times. That's the last take.

neilhimself @ jelundberg the film crew arrived with a script about Mothers I wasn't mad keen on, so asked if I could write Buttons instead. They said yes

jelundberg @ neilhimself It's quite lovely. Knowing the story gives the vid suspense, and when you put the buttons to your eyes, I was like, "No, Neil!"

jelundberg @ neilhimself Was the library used for the vid your own library? It's fantastic. I'm down to only 2 bookshelves after the move to Singapore.

neilhimself @ jelundberg Yup. Well, that's the downstairs (basement) library (not the more formal upstairs library that transforms into Holly's bedroom).

So yeah, a realtime conversation with Neil Gaiman. Eee!

Here's that link again to the video (it's no. 1 of 8).
