My turn as a guest lecturer in a technical writing class went well. Right before I went on, the instructor told the students that most of them would be losing groupwork points based on the poor behavior of their teammates. The crowd was ugly as I took the podium. I assured the class that none of what I had to say would result in them losing any more points whatsoever. That helped a little.

The topic was "what hiring managers look for in resumes and other forms of professional communication". We had a few writing exercises, a team game I made up right before the class, and a good chunk of time devoted to their questions. Sort of a dead group, but it was 10am on a Monday.

On Saturday, I worked for a few hours at the Memorial Art Gallery's Clothesline Festival. They were charging $7.00 to get into an arts fair after the city had already seen two free street fairs. It seemed weird (and classist?) to charge money to allow people to come buy art. Maybe I am just cheap. I got in for free, worked a friend's booth for a few hours, and ended up getting paid for my time. For the win.

I made it out on Saturday to see the latest Bare Bones Festival show. Good stuff, as always. Squirrel Cop was hilarious.

Finally saw A Scanner Darkly last night at the dollar theatre. It felt like one of the most faithful translations of Philip K. Dick yet (although Blade Runner was also good...Total Recall sort of blew). The animation didn't hurt it at all.

Summer go club meetings, a peaceful once-a-week thing at Bill's house, have been replaced by the madness of monday-wednesday-friday meetings in Java's at RIT. Old school people have been making a concerted effort to get the next generation to take over the reins of club ASAP.

Last weekend, hawking the go-koolaid:
