se The traps guarding BALME require mechanics (<12?). A former minion of Rawal, Balme hides behind a row of submission turrets. Kill him or convince him you're not working for Rawal and let him go. Either will satisfy Trahan's (Perikalia) quest.
nw ESSREN the drayk thinks you look delicious. Appropriately, the drayk guards a canister of create drayk!
s Enter the southern building with caution: even after clearing the area of patrols, crossing into the central room spawns a wave of armored podlings and assault podlings. The innermost room contains a recipe for wands and runed ruby, among other treasures.

ne TRAHAN, a willing minion of Rawal, asks you to kill Balme, who is hiding in the Podling Crossroads (Q: Rawal's Lost Sheep.) Even if you let Balme escape, return to Trahan for your reward: a flamecaster's shawl and five gemstones.
nw ILLYARA'S OFFICE Tell COMMANDER ILLYARA what you know about Bennhold to receive Q: The River Bandits, to hunt for bandits in Thistlewood. Return after killing Callaran in Thistlewood to receive the reward: a corrupting baton, a runed ruby, and 300 coins. Illyara will offer no other quests to rebels, but loyalists will also receive Q: East Field Bugs, to speak with Roswald in the Perikalia Farmlands. Reward: a fyora-scale shield and 300 coins. Loyalists can also turn Preva in to her for shaper reputation (+3) and 300 coins. Illyara also offers a reward for the posted kyshakk hunt bounty: 300 coins and a lucky charm. Illyara poses a reputation question (+3/-2).

center PERIKALIA CRYSTAL WORKS DINORA sells many magical goods including icy crystals, bile-infused crystals, ensnaring fibers, lighting crystals, and a runed ruby, "expensive." She'll also give you the crystal mine key for the North Storm Plains mine she'd like you to clear (Q: The Haunted Mine.) Reward: radiant crystal, beautiful crystals, and access to her private stock: she sells a tiny orb of mist, a steel spike, lightning crystals and fire-infused crystals, "very reasonable."
center ARTISANAL IRON MUKESH sells nice arms and armour, including shaped equipment, "expensive." The bedroom behind Mukesh has an artila eye.
se outside, PREVA will give rebels with leadership 6 the quest Q: Help For Serviles. Return to her after speaking with Tima in Fort Vengeance for rebel reputation (-3).
se WHITE STAG INN BYRONY the inkeeper sells food, "expensive." She's also a trakovite, and your contact for Litalia's fourth quest. BELLOCK the recruiter offers Q: Lost Caravan, to retrieve crystals from the Remote Woods. Return with the three polished stones for the reward: Dhonel's band. Bellock will then direct you to speak with his master, Sage Taygen, in Zephyr Oasis.
s Read the sign for Q: Bounty: Kyshakks, to kill ten of them in the Abandoned Farms.

sw WARZANA'S OFFICE WARZANA will rent you an artila for 300 coins or battle alpha for 400 coins. (Commanding an alpha requires leadership 4; an artila requires leadership 5.) He asks for a reputation opinion (+2, 0, -2), and offers you Q: Alpha Paperwork, to find a battle alpha in the Mountain Crossroad. If you free Alpha 17, return here to convince him you've killed it and to receive the reward, which is variable according to leadership. (At leadership 11, he'll pay 475 coins.) If you've asked it to return, and it hasn't, you'll receive 100 coins.
Stormhold

quick overview: General Alwan's home base, Stormhold offers new quests and trainers.
nw The back door to the northwest building is in its north wall. It is possible -- but not easy! -- to run down from this door in combat mode, disabling both traps, avoiding the patroling guard, to grab the book "canisters: creation and analysis" in the LIBRARY. This satisfies Rawal's quest.
nw General Alwan is magically maintained in the northwest building. After asking you a reputation question (+3,0,-3), he'll give you the quest Q: Journey to the Drakons, to go to Gazaki-Uss. Successfully lying to Alwan upon return requires leadership 10 and grants rebel reputation (-3); honesty requires no leadership and grants shaper reputation (+3). Reward: 750 coins and a projecting belt. After you've completed this quest, Alwan will give you a Dara Reaches Pass, allowing you to travel further south. If you have high enough reputation and say you wish to fight for the shapers, he will next assign you Q: Control Core B. (Note that you can finish this quest without joining Alwan's faction, and the control core contains unmelting ice.... Access the control core through the Remote Woods.) Repairing the core grants shaper reputation (+3), 500 coins, and a rod of alacrity. It also allows joining Alwan's faction. Should you join, Alwan will give you Repository Key B and assign you to retrieve the Q: Unbound Sample from the Foundry Repository. Reward: 500 coins, a runed onyx, and a guardian cloak. The next factional quest is Q: Shadow Road Rogues, to infiltrate the Secret Laboratory. Reward: 750 coins, a runed onyx, and an impervious band. Alwan will then assign Q: The Purity Agent, to sabotage the agent in Kayar's Spire. Reward: 1000 coins, gloves of the hammer, and a golden crystal. Alwan's final quest is Q: Go to the Council, which sends you to the endgame. Make sure you finish all desired quests and optional dungeons before heading off to save the world!

se STORMHOLD PRISON After asking your rebel status, PEPOY offers self-proclaimed rebels the quest Q: Servile Spy, to kill Roga in Outside Gazaki-Uss. (There is no reward except rebel reputation (-3), but should you recieve the quest to kill Alwan, return to speak with him; he'll point you to his poison supply.) VENER will beg you to save his life by speaking to Agent Gray (Q: Saving Vener.)
s Speak with AGENT GRAY: for 200 coins you can complete your Vener quest, earn him a beating, and learn something about yourself. (requires leadership 5.)
sw The southern room of the western building contains a canister of dominate.
sw SAGE PAVYL gives Q: Fort Vengeance Message, to deliver a mesage to Cyprien. (Reward: speed spores, resistance spores, ensnaring fibres, and a radiant crystal.) After you've met with Alwan, he teaches battle spells from ice spray through acid shower, mental spells from wrack through essence shackles, blessing spells from essence shield through essence blade, and healing spells from regenerative aura through major heal, "exorbitant." If you join Alwan's faction, she'll also teach magic and shaping skills. If you complete Alwan's factional quests, she teaches purifying rain, mass madness, battle roar, and mass restore, "slightly expensive."
sw After you've spoken with Alwan, SHAPER MARZAN will teach create kyshakk, create clawbug, create battle alpha, create vlish, and create glaahk, "expensive." After completing Alwan's secret laboratory quest, you can also train create rotghroth, create war trall, and create wingbolt, "expensive." If you join Alwan's faction, he will remove the control tool from your chest. (Note that this lowers your endurance by one.) After you complete "Shadow Road Rogues," he'll also teach create rotghroth, create war trall, and create wingbolt, "slightly expensive."

nw REINART'S CAMP REINART has set up camp in the northwest corner. Be a good loyalist and kill him (for shaper reputation (+3)), or a good rebel and aid him. Give him 200 coins to satisfy Eloise's (trakovite) quest. Addison from Fort Definace would also be happy to kill him, should you wish to lead him here: killing him with Addison grants shaper reputation (+2).
ne A glaahk drops a glaahk eye; the canister behind the glaahk nest teaches essence shield (+2).
se The spitting filthbug drops a tiny orb of mist.
ne If you have lured Addison from Fort Defiance, he will appear just inside the northern entrance to the ruins. He drops a shaped blade. Killing him grants rebel reputation (-2).
TRAHAN will ambush you if you'd turned him down in Perikalia.

quick overview: Fort Defiance is one of the three forts guarding the eastern frontier.
center CAPTAIN ZOKA
sw ALEXIE'S LABORATORY SHAPER ALEXIE wants the papers you retrieved from the ruins of Helft (Q: Return Shaper Papers.) Giving her the papers grants you shaper reputation (+3) and a reward: 1000 coins and a skein of wisdom. Alexie also wants research notes, for which you'll get even more shaper reputation (+3). Bring her eight, and she'll teach create drayk.
The canister teaches essence shackles.
ADDISON'S OFFICE Lure CAPTAIN ADDISON out of town by telling him you know where to find a Trakovite; if you're a loyalist, you can lead him to Reinart, or as a rebel simply lure him out of town to kill him in secret for Eloise's quest. Either way, he appears in the north of the Hatra Ruins.
COMMANDER'S OFFICE COMMANDER BELOY will open the east gates for you when you show her your amulet of passage. The trap in her room requires mechanics (<12); there are shaped boots among her treasures.
Abandoned Farms

quick overview: The region is infested with kyshakks. The entrance to the northeast building reveals two pylon-studded rooms protecting Sage Olipha. Use both sporeboxes to clear the way to this non-approved lifecrafter, who can be convinced to teach you shaping.
ne Two sporeboxes need to be toggled in the northeastern building in order to reach Sage Olipha. Hug the north wall to reach the northern sporebox. To get access to the southern sporebox, hug the eastern wall, through the doorway, all the way south to the southern wall, then move west along the wall until you're opposite the northern door. Cross the room carefully, open the door, and use the sporebox. This will deactivate the pylon closest to the northwest door, making it possible to reach Olipha's bedroom and laboratory.
ne Traps on Olipha's chest require mechanics (13 or 14).
SAGE OLIPHA'S WORKSHOP SAGE OLIPHA offers a reputation encounter (+2/-2), and if you have answered his questions in a rebel fashion, will teach create drayk, create kyshakk, create battle alpha, create glaahk, and create rotghroth, "exorbitant."

Fort Vengeance

quick overview: The midddle fort on the line between shapers and rebels, Fort Vengeance is one of three ways to pass from west to east. Questing and magic-learning are also on offer here.
center GENZLEN'S OFFICE GUARDIAN GENZLEN will ask to see your amulet before giving you access to the east. He'll give you Q: Hatra Glaahks, to kill fifteen glaahks in the ruins of hatra. Reward: 250 coins and a shapemaster blade. If you wish, you can turn in Shaper Olipha of the Abandoned Farms for shaper reputation (+2) and a rod of defenses. You can also turn in Tima for increased shaper reputation (+2).
SERVILE QUARTERS TIMA is here; if desired, ask her if she'd like a servile escort to the shadow road, then report back to Preka in Perikalia. You can also turn her in to Genzlen.
CYPRIAN'S WORKSHOP CYPRIEN will take the message from Stormhold to satisfy Pavyl's quest. She'll ask for a reputation opinion (+2/-2), and she will teach battle spells from shocking rain through kill, mental spells from dominate through strong daze, blessing spells battle aura and essence blade, and healing spells banish affliction and major heal, "expensive."

Mountain Crossroad

quick overview: Rogue creations swarm around six non-functional pacification pylons in the outer ring of this area. Each pylon is controlled by a central power spiral which can be activated to quell the rogues. Activate all six to clear the area. Alpha 17 hides to the northeast. The central room contains pure quicksilver.
sw There is a steel spine in the maintenance building.
center Use all six power spirals to pacify the mobs. The heavily-locked central building (five living tools at mechanics 12), guarded by submission turrets, contains a canister of major heal and *pure quicksilver*.
ne ALPHA 17 can be found in the northeast corner. Even if the mobs are quelled, the alpha will fight them, so you may wish to kill the rogues directly south of him before speaking with him. Speaking with him satisfies Warzana's (Perikalia) quest: convince it to escape to rebel lands, or ask it to return home. This is a reputation encounter (+2/+2/-2).
Fort Rockwell

quick overview: The most remote of the forts of the line, Fort Rockwell is one of three access points between east and west. A nice shop and a blessed anvil grace the area.
w FELICIA'S SHOP After you've spoken with Rossi, Felicia buys, and sells goods including living tools, ensnaring fibers, pods, and spores, "expensive."
w The jars behind the building contain swamp herbs and wiry moss.
nw COMMANDER ROSSI asks to see your papers, but accepts your amulet as proof of authority to pass. Ask him about the anvil to receive Q: Amulet Recovery. The amulet can be found on a body in the Bonepeak Ruins. Tell the truth about finding the amulet for shaper reputation (+3); both truth-telling and lying will grant you access to the blessed anvil.

ne TARMAGON the drakon waits with six rotghroths to eat anyone emerging from the fort. Show him your amulet to avoid battle. (=requires leadership 6.)

ne Mines in the area require mechanics (<12). The northeast corner is packed with redshell clawbugs protecting the clawbug hivemother, who drops a polychronous shield on death. A box in the clawbug tunnels contains three polished stones for Bellock's quest.

quick overview: The home of the thistlewood bandits, Thistlewood is yet another step in hunting the elusive Bennhold. Clear bandits as desired from the north, then follow a servile to the southwest to clear out Callaran's bandit camp. Don't miss the solidified flame in the bandits' complex.
e On entry to the region you will be attacked by a band of thistlewood bandits, "warriors for the mighty bennhold."
ne GLABRO and more bandits camp in the northeast corner. A chest behind them contains a runed amethyst.
center Wander in the center until you discover a "roaming servile." Hide nearby, and follow at a distance clockwise while he makes his circuit of the area. When he returns to where he spawned, he'll reveal the secret pathway leading towards the southwest.
sw At first surprisingly empty, the southwest complex is home to the thistlewood bandits. With leadership 8, you can control the burning turrets guarding the southwest buildings. Explore the camp until you hear the bandits returning from their hunt. For maximum satisfaction and fun, make a standoff next to your burning turrets, who will help you pick off the bandits with ease. CALLARAN is the last of the bandits to enter.
s The innermost building in the bandit complex contains a letter to Callaran from Bennhold, whose fortress is in the White Wastes.
s The turret-guarded grove hides *solidified flame* and a canister of essence blade.
Northwest Wasteland

quick overview: Patroling exploding kyshakks and unstable wingbolts can be calmed with leadership 7; note that nesting rogues off the main road will remain hostile. A clan of tattooed cultists is ensconced in the southwest; Travald's Crypt can be reached from the northeast.
sw ABANDONED MINE The southwestern complex is infested with some pretty fierce cultist serviles. Their leader, GREK, is in the northern building. One chest contains a runed onyx.
ne CHORASS' CAMP CAVASSO the drayk and a number of soldiers guard the entrance to Travald's Crypt. With leadership 9 and your amulet you can confuse them; they'll leave to seek new orders, allowing access to the crypt.
Travald's Crypt

quick overview: Follow a vaguely-counterclockwise wandering path to reach first Travald, then Tholosss.
sw There are shaped boots on the floor of the opening chamber.
s The south is infested with cryptwalkers. One of the coffins holds a tiny orb of mist.
se A narrow passagway leads past traps to a a power spiral. To destroy the bride of travald without fighting her directly, activate it (requires mechanics 10) and run south before it explodes.
e If you have not blown her to smithereens, the BRIDE OF TRAVALD is here. Fight her and the spirits she summons.
ne TRAVALD'S ADVISOR stands guard in the northeast. With leadership 10, you can convince him to go to his rest, and he'll crumble to dust. (The nearby cells only open should you challenge him.)
center TRAVALD inhabits the central chamber, surrounded by some nasty traps (most require mechanics (>14), but one in front requires only mechanics 13.) Travald will summon power constructs to circle his throne. If your mechanical ability is high, disarm a trap and wait out the procession in the safety of the center. Otherwise, cast regeneration aura and insert yourself into the gap in the circle of constructs, moving counter-clockwise with them. If you get too close to any construct, it will become hostile: just continue your march, healing as necessary, attacking as desired. Eventually, the constructs will fade away. Travald's ghost drops the Ring of Eye's Purity.
nw Find THOLOSSS in his northwest rooms to fulfill factional quests for Astoria or Ghaldring. Speak with him to receive a message for Astoria. The canister contains *ur-drakon skin*.
Western Wasteland

quick overview: One of the routes to Gazaki-Uss, the Western Wasteland provides easy passage for those with leadership ability.
w The Drakon RAVASS blocks the road east until you show your amulet. With leadership 9, you can convince him it would add to his glory to help you clear the rogues from the path.
se The war trall nest contains a runed amethyst; the dead servile in the clearing just south of them holds a submission baton.
sw SHAKKUS-EYE lurks among some assault podlings in the southwest corner. The more podlings you can kill before engaging the eyebeast, the easier the encounter will be: wait until they wander east and pull them one or two at a time. Shakkus-eye drops a forbidden band.
Outside Gazaki-Uss

quick overview: The approach to Gazaki-Uss offers a nice shop as well as a few quest personalities (Toroth to the south, and Roga in the north.) With an amulet and leadership 7, area patrols will be calmed. Don't miss the Demon's Bile in Ukri's shop!
se TOROTH'S WORKSHOP Challenging TOROTH causes everyone nearby to become hostile. East of the drayk there is a power spiral which with mechanics 10 can be set to explode, killing Toroth without making neighbours hostile. Toroth drops a perfect drayk scale. The explosion will also cause drayk technicians to flee the building, allowing you to loot their nests.
center UKRI will ask you a reputation question (+2/-2); if you answer in favour of the rebels she will buy, and sell many goods including living tools, pods, spores, missiles, and rings, "expensive(?)". On her table she has *Demon's Bile*: it isn't yours, but one theft won't cause hostility.
SERVILE CULTIST STOCKADE The servile cultist guards can be convinced to let you through to see Roga.
ROGA'S HALL Rebels should confront ROGA in his hall to inform him and his audience of Pepoy's accusation. With leadership 10, his serviles will second the accusation, and gladly allow you to kill him.
ne The back room behind Roga contains a canister of essence armour and ethereal bindings.
Gazaki-Uss

w On entry, you'll be met by Learned Plo, who will lead you to Ghaldring's Hall.
se GHALDRING'S HALL GHALDRING will ask you a reputation question (+3/0/-3), then ask that you wait a day before meeting with him again. After the evening's events, you'll discover that it's impossible to return to him through the main doors: you'll have to take back corridors, through the core. After testing you, he'll eventually give you the message which fulfill's Alwan's quest.
se TRADING POST Outside the Hall, ELIK buys, and sells very little, "utterly ridiculous."
n DROSSCH'S SMITHY SMITH DROSSCH
nw GUEST QUARTERS After speaking with Ghaldring for the first time, rest "for the night," until you're rudely awakened by the drakon KRESSIA and his pet kyshakks, who want you to humble yourself. With leadership 6 you can get rid of his allies by taunting him; with leadership 9 you can get him to leave by throwing suspician on Ghaldring.
n There are essence and health pools just north of the core.
ne SAKKASH'S LABORATORY If you wish, peek into this laboratory for Alwan's quest. A chest in the northeast room of the laboratory contains repository key c.
center HEATING CORE The doors to the core will slam behind you upon entry, shutting you in. Cast restoration aura and get your creatures as far from the center element as possible in the narrow side corridors. Eventually, the south exit will open, allowing you out. Buff, and continue south to Ghaldring's Hall.
e The lever-locked rooms south of Sakkash's lab contain quest rewards for Ghaldring's faction. They're heavily locked, but nevertheless lootable: canisters of charm, create gazer, create drakon, and battle roar.
sw PHYLLIDA will offer rebels the quest Q: Phyllida's Amulet. Find the amulet in the Bonepeak ruins. Returning it grants rebel reputation (-3).
VISITING SOLDIERS' QUARTERS GRETA is here; if asked, she'll vouch for you. If your reputation is biased towards the shapers, she'll grant you rebel reputation (-6).
MEHKEN will unlock her bedroom to give you access to a canister of banish affliction and give you Q: Lethia Pass. Return after exploring the pass for your reward: access to a canister of charm.

On entry, you'll be accosted by TAKHAR and a swarm of servile hunters. Show them your amulet, and if you're working for Astoria, talk them out of their hostility by telling them you're there to undermine shaper defences. (requires leadership 8.)

quick overview: Head south for pillar-dodging and sneaking; head west for combat. Both routes will eventually lead you to the southwest, satisfying Astoria and/or Ghaldring's quest. From the north entrance, move west, then south down the trapped corridor towards the center to activate the power spiral which controls the pacification pylon to the east. Sneaky types should head back east to follow their path; others should continue west.
nw Three massive spawners spit out rogue creations. (Move your way towards them as quickly as possible, and layer everything in acid...)
center For those on the combat path, once again the doors to a power core slam shut behind you, this time locking you in with six core golems. They'll move towards the central crystal, where they'll do nasty area damage if you let them linger. Damage them adequately, and they'll return to the edges to repair. Keep them at the edges until they retreat for good. The southeast door will then unlock.
center Those on the pylon path will find the drayk SSS'ARTO near the center of the complex; with leadership 9 you can convince him to help you fight the rock trall sentinal that blocks the exit.
s Three more spawners operate just south of the power core. Just east of the spawners is a spore switch (requires mechanics 14.) South of the spore box is a blue chest with a golden crystal and *mandrake tincture*.
sw A ROCK TRALL SENTINAL guards the exit. When it's quite damaged, it will run north to a platform to heal itself. You can beat it to the punch by running north yourself to use the crystal spiral there, either to prevent its healing (requires mechanics 7) or to destroy it when it steps on the platform (requires mechanics 12.) Of course, it's also possible to simply kill the golem before it reaches the platform.
sw There is an essence pool here. One blue chest contains swamp herbs and wiry moss; the other contains *crystalline fibers*.
Perikalia Orchards

quick overview: Lightly held by loyalists, this route into Dera is subject to being overrun by rogues. As you move south, a swarm of rogue assault rotghroths, artilas, and cryodrayks will attack the patrols. Help the patrols if you'd like; the rogues are hostile even to rebels.
n On entry you will be met by SERGEANT PHRYNIA, who demands your papers. You will then be met by GUSTA, Rawal's minion, who will become hostile if you admit to having had your control creature removed. (Note that admitting this and killing him has no effect on your relationship with Rawal.)
ne QUIRCE'S HOME QUIRCE will offer you the quest Q: Quirce's Stable. Speak with Ghar to pursue this quest. As a reward, he'll unlock the southeast building.
nw PERIKALIA STABLES After accepting Quirce's quest, speak with GHAR. With leadership 8 you can calm him; otherwise, you can kill him and his mates.
se The small, heavily-locked building contains a runed onyx and a canister of essence lances. The door will be unlocked if you've done Quirce's quest.
