THe last couple days have been a little crazy. Yesterday, we had a baby shower for a girl at work and then we were just putzing around and wasting time so I didn't get home until 5. Then Mike appeared at 5:30. We decided to grab some Subway before class because there wasn't really time to cook but I didn't really want to eat restaurant food either. So our Italian class was pretty fun. At least in my opinion! There are only about 10 people in the class so that is pretty awesome. The teacher is 75 and has lived in the US for about 60 years. He's full of stories and cool random knowledge. It's easy to see he enjoys this hobby of teaching people about Italy. His goal is to teach us random things we'll need to know rather than make us sit there conjugating verbs like high school language classes (Thank goodness!) We learned the basic conjugations for a couple words you need (be and have) but most of it is just stuff you'll need to say and stuff you'll need to know.
Most important thing I learned? The word "senza" which means without. I can now order "Jenny friendly" food. :) The food is the big reason behind me wanting to take the class, Mike's just along for the ride (and because he doesn't trust me to not sell him to the highest bidder, probably!) I am deathly scared of eating something that will make me sick while on my honeymoon. This is the reason I have only vacationed in English and Spanish speaking locales thus far in my life. All I'd need is to ingest some seafood and wind up puking ... that would not make a good honeymoon story! :) The guide books told me to make some index cards with pictures and the "NO" sign - like a fish with a no sign around it. I wanted to not look like a moron. ;)
Interesting random fact of the night:
quaranta = 40
The word quarantine is derived from this word - When the black plague hit Venice the dude in charge quarantined people for 40 days and 40 nights (cause, you know, that's the magical Biblical #) and poof there's the word quarantine. See? Already got my money's worth for the class. :)
Today was just today. Lots of yearbook stuff to work on tonight. Joy. Adios all!
