Tech Insanity!

One of us has been emitting "Break, electronic things, break!" waves the last few days. I think it's him; he swears it's me. :) Or sneakers, because he wants an excuse to get rid of a cat. :)

First, I bought him Wii battery packs for the remotes - they are rechargable so you don't have to go through batteries like crazy. His friend Jeff has them and he has been raving about them. Of course I couldn't find the brand Jeff has, and I found another brand that was the same price assuming that electronics purchased in a store FUNCTION. Alas, the first night the recharger not only broke itself, but fried one of the ($40) remotes in it. Sigh. Oops.

So we drove all over today, returning the broken charger (Nope, nutin we can do about that fried remote, so sorry!) and attempting to find the right rechargable thingy. We found it at game stop but after several minutes the line hadn't moved so we quit waiting and we'll go tomorrow early. (We both slept til noon today.)

Then, he decided that the world was going to invade my privacy and kill me if I continued to have an open connection on my wifi. (Spare me the lecture. I know. It's better to be password protected. But the computer has issues with it and it bothers me so I'm lazy about it and just don't do private things. If a hacker or the CIA wants to read my emails and my livejournals, I'll live!) Well, we put the password on the router and then POOF the computer and Wii wouldn't connect anymore. Fine without password, issues with password of either type. Lots of yelling and screaming and throwing things later (When did my dad show up!?!?! ;) he decided it was the router (or the terrible iBook!) and so we put "router that doesn't suck" on the shopping list for today.

At best buy, we bought lots of things (Dancing w/ the Stars for the Wii, wireless thingy for the xbox360, a new remote and game bundled together, and a supposedly not sucky router) to play with. We're poor now. The new better and most excellent router cost lots more than my other one. But it's also several letters into the alphabet better than my old one. (From "b" to "n" is a big jump!) After we came home, I put away groceries and he attempted to set up the router. Same problem as before! More yelling! So while I played on the internet (gasp! without a password!) he decided to play Wii.

More yelling. The wii remote wouldn't recognize the left side of the screen. Lots of anger. This was the other remote that had been charged on the broken charger so I was fearing that I was responsible for yet another broken remote .... but after awhile, he realized that the Christmas Tree lights were putting out a forcefield of death!!!!!!! We turned off the tree and poof the remote worked again.

So I called the 800 number and talked to India. Actually, it was the 888 number because when he dialed it with 800 he got something like "girls girls girls" which was amusing. So I talked to someone in India who had me change one little thing we hadn't thought of and poof everything works now. Yippie!

We still don't have a recharger for the one working old remote and the new remote but that can happen another day.

Oh, and I'm amused that the $249 Wii comes with wireless internet built in and for the much more expensive xBox360 you have to buy a $99 attachment to get wireless internet.
