Never had Elias been so grateful for Ruby’s decision to give the Carlisles their spare key.

Now I see what you mean about the timing!

“Not coffee?” Ruby asked, still coming awake after napping during their drive across the city.

Not even black tea, in all likelihood. She's probably about to have herbal.

The hospital had given Ruby a set of scrubs to wear home...

Could be handy for future fancy dress parties.

...the nurse giving Peter a hopeful smile as he took them from her with a “Thank you.”

Ooh, the Masterpiece Contemporary 'thank you.' That's lethal.

He moved to their dresser, pulling open a drawer and finding the pair of ratty sweatpants Ruby preferred to lounge in.

That would be 'broken in', Mr. McCoy, thankyouverymuch.

Fortunately Ruby was soon in his vest, and was able to catch her breath as he helped her to change into her lounge pants.

Awwwww.

“This is going to be miserable,” she said when he was done, her face drawn. That's true. She's probably not quite as used to the constantly-in-the-field guys as having to ( ... )

*g*

Could be handy for future fancy dress parties.

Or for general loafing about the house. Once broken in, they’re quite comfy.

Ooh, the Masterpiece Contemporary 'thank you.' That's lethal.

Peter is *fully* aware of the power of the “Thank You”.

That's true. She's probably not quite as used to the constantly-in-the-field guys as having to grind through the day with injuries.

Fortunately for her!

Not that he couldn't crack into her phone if the need arose.

In truth, Peter would probably arrange to have Mickey hack something. Were it necessary. ;)

One presumes at this point that she's not going to get into the whole 'the hospitals here are like watching reruns of medical shows from the 1960s back home.'

Definitely not.

Do they even have ibuprofen in the PW? Yet?

They’re working on it.

At least paracetamol works on her; there's no way they'd give her aspirin with her current injuries.

No way. Which is why they sent her home with, basically, morphine.

All the evildoers they spend ( ... )

Ruby's reaction the first time she ever heard it directed at someone must have been priceless.

I guess I'm just used to my phone's craptastic security (ooh, four digits).

They’re working on it.

It's considered to be part of the WHO's minimum standards for setting up a proper health care system. (And it's kinda scary how few of the drugs on the full list would even exist in the PW.)

Oh yes. Her jaw would have dropped, and I suspect she might have lost focus for a moment or two. And earned a tease from Elias: "You never react like that when I thank you for something," accompanied by a wink.

Absolutely. PW is *waaaaaaay* behind on medical care. There are doctors who try their best, of course, but without the right meds they really can't do much.

Oh yes.

It was probably also the first time she actually understood how Peter was able to enchant Rose by reciting poetry at her.

Oh, no question. I can kind of see her eyes glassing over as it all clicks ;)
