Ooh flirty louche Peter is delightful! :)

I love their moments of sharing past experiences here - bittersweet, and so touching.

.....Rose and Peter are going to buy a fertility god????

Well. Put that in your entryway, and it certainly will make a statement. Kind of like those places with the Terra Cotta Soldiers at the door, except slightly less dressed. Jackie and Pete's reactions would probably be priceless.

Oh dear. Jackie at Lupercalia. There's a scary thought for you.

I mean, it's not a leopard. Leopards are far more intimidating. But, I suppose in absence of a leopard, a fertility god will likely do for the short term.

Maaaaaaaaaaaybe.

Leopards are far more intimidating.

But not nearly as giggle-inducing.

Oh, I don't know. I mean, I never fail to squeal in glee when I see a leopard.

(Of course, that's probably not the reaction Peter is hoping for from Rose!)

It's interesting to speculate what the 19th c. would have been like without the very conservative and moral Victoria. Would it have been more like the 18th? And could a pagan holiday be established and be that widely adopted, that early?

Interesting stuff!

(Fun story, too!)

I like to think it would have been, yes. The effects of the Regency certainly would have lasted far longer...which makes me wonder about the effects on fashion. ;)

And could a pagan holiday be established and be that widely adopted, that early?

I'm thinking this was adopted in the late 19th Century, as part of a huge rage in all things Roman (thanks to Pompeii). And I think it appealed a great deal more to society than a feast date celebrating a martyr, for whatever reason :)

*giggles*

Oh, drunk and flirty Peter and Rose are quite fun, aren't they? :D

And nice to know that Peter does have some nice childhood memories!

Peter, I think, is greatly enjoying being a bit naughty. *g*

One of the best things about Pete's World is being able to explore all these little differences. It reminded me a little bit of Mardi Gras the year I lived in a little town in Louisiana, very family friendly and tame during the afternoon and more and more drunk and rowdie as the night went on.

I love playing with things that are just that little bit different--although, clearly, Lupercalia is *very* different!
