Lovely, such a peaceful way to start the day. I know it was mentioned earlier that Annie often visits Lucy at school, but I don't recalled if I commented on how much I love the extended family Peter has built for himself, Rose and Lucy. Although, given how close they've apparently grown over the years, I'm curious as to Rose's reaction to Heatherfield (never realized it sounds suspiciously like Netherfield...). On thinking about it, I put it down to old money atmospher versus new money - i.e., lots of antiques in big cavernous rooms at Heatherfield as opposed to the more homey cluttered feel of Jackie and Pete's place, maybe?

Ah well, I guess we'll learn more about it when they actually make the trip, and hopefully Rose's wish for a family suite will be fulfilled. ;^)

Peter’s really terribly loyal to his friends-it’s the corollary to his being very, very harsh with those he doesn’t trust at all  It really is nice to write him having these old, dear friends (even if I sometimes terrible about remembering to include them in the story!)

I think that’s part of it, yes-the Tyler mansion might be of a size with Heatherfield, but I think it definitely has more of an “old money, National Trust” sort of air. And while Jackie has a cook, Annie has a whole staff of servants.

I suspect Pete knew he had picked a winner when for her next birthday, Jackie was completely delighted that Pete's secretary got her flowers and put them in a place of pride, and probably invited her 'round for tea!

I love chapters like this where we see them just being a family-that part where they (especially Rose!)are learning to let Lucy grow up a bit was perfect!! And of course I am partial to the Croy chapters anyway!

It's very, very nice to be able to write the Carlisle's as a normal family, just puttering around, doing their thing. (not that I don't enjoy writing Peter and/or Rose at work, of course--but the family parts make for a nice change of pace).

I love how realistic Rose's struggle to let Lucy grow up is. I imagine that's difficult when you know just how much trouble you were as a child. ;-)

It's not just that Rose knows how much of a terror she was--it's that she knows the terrors that truly lurk out there in the world. It's very, very hard for her to let Lucy go, knowing those things are out there.

Good to see them letting Lucy out a bit! And I think a nice holiday'll be a good thing!
