An Anniversary Thing
Peter insisted that they spend their first anniversary in Kendal-he wanted to spend the time, with Rose, in the place where everything had started. Rose had laughed, at first, asking why they couldn’t simply spend it in London, but had relented upon seeing that he was both serious and not a little stung by how cavalierly she’d

Is Rose a little Kendal-ed out at this point? Poor woobie Peter, though; his quickly-hidden pout must have been epic.
He still didn’t quite understand the allure of travelling by train-and truth be told, staring out the window tended to make him sick-but Rose adored it and so he had humoured her.
Peter gets motion sick? Why do I get the feeling this is going to come up again? (no pun intended)
He had called up to Louise, asking if she or someone from her tea group would be willing to air the house out a bit, and so it was that when they arrived late Friday night, the house had been not only cleaned, but was near full to bursting with flowers.
See, Peter, you do have a collective of women to serve as your surrogate mum.
That first night in Kendal, they didn’t even make it up the stairs before making love.
How many flower petals were harmed in this endeavour?
At least, he reflected, he actually had friends to visit in Kendal.
Which certainly wouldn't have been the case until recently, save Louise and the inn's owners.
They left for lunch with Penny and Anna…
Yay!
…and then returned to the house for a picnic dinner on the floor in front of the fireplace.
That night, they managed to make it upstairs before making love-although only just.
I seem to recall that was the case the last time we read of them picnicking in front of the fire. XD
And then, on Sunday, Peter and Rose drove to Carlisle to meet with Annie and her husband for tea.
*snort* And how quickly did he get tired of those jokes?
Rose still wasn’t completely comfortable around Annie, but it was a far cry from the debacle of their first meeting-and Rose was trying to get to know Annie, to get past her (irrational) insecurity where his oldest friend was concerned.
I could see Rose totally blowing a gasket if Annie's greeting consisted of planting a big (platonic) kiss and a hug - especially if she immediately started chatting to Peter without waiting to be introduced.
We are going to get to see this eventually, yes?
He watched her make a small “Oh!” of recognition, right before he closed the distance between them and kissed her.
Are they going to end up doing those things it would be worse to be caught doing?
If he thought they could get away with it, he would have made love to her in that field.
You can always get back in the car… ;P
The duvet was blue, the furniture was a blonde wood-but there was still a power to making love to Rose in that room, based on that first night together with her.
Peter is almost cat-like in his devotion to his places and things.
“Burns,” he breathed.
“I don’t expect this to replace your favourite book,”…
Think of it this way: now he has one for Sunday best!
She cupped his cheek. “I’ve got you.”
*…and that's all I want…*
Instead of talking about his family, this year they talked about Rose’s…
Certainly a much more pleasant topic. Did he manage to squeeze the story about the cheese grater and Jackie's shoes out of her this time?
She blushed, and he continued. “I realized it here. Out in the car park. Not how much I love you-but that I loved you at all.”
Rose’s eyes shone in the candlelight. “You did?”
And now she knows what that look on his face was all about.
“D’you miss it?” he asked softly.
*wibble*
And as they rode the train back to London late that afternoon, he reflected-without looking out the window-that it had been one of the best weekends of his entire life.
*happy sigh*
He's finally found a home in Rose.

No--I think Rose had simply imagined the two of them would hide out together in London for the weekend. As for Peter's pout, I have one word: dimples

I really hadn't intended it to; the idea came out of conversations with earlgreytea68, bouncy_castle79, and chicklet73.

None. Wall!Secks ;)

Years ago ;)

Yup--it's already written. Well, from Peter's side, at least. I still have to do Rose's.

He did indeed. XD
He's finally found a home in Rose.
I love this assessment--it's lovely.

It is for couples like the two of them that the London Eye does not allow a car to go up with only two people in it.

Hee.
None. Wall!Secks ;)
I'm still waiting for them to end up having Stairs!Secks.

Oh, gawd, it's gonna be School Reunion all over again, isn't it? And in some ways even more understandable, because Annie's going to be the only other person she's seen Peter be even remotely demonstrative towards. And I picture Annie as being quite saucy and flirty, even though it doesn't really mean anything when it's directed at Peter.
With maybe a dash of Rise of the Cybermen, with Annie and Peter pulling the 'you had to be there' routine on Rose... and she would not like it one bit.
But then of course I can't imagine Peter will be best pleased to see either of the two of them not getting on with the other, especially since Annie really has been there for him through thick and thin.
So long as he doesn't spring the existence of Annie on her like he did with Loreen... or if he did, I can totally see Annie turning on Peter and defending Rose's point of view. ('Well here I am hanging all over you, and she doesn't even have the faintest clue who I am! What is wrong with you, Carlisle?)

Hmmmm...the stairs would have to have some pretty plush carpeting, and thick padding...
The Annie encounter is a debacle for a wide variety of reasons. That's all I'll say.
