…it didn’t hurt, of course, that Rose loved it when he let himself get ‘scruffy’.

Yeah, how many impromptu jumpings did it take him to work that out? ;P

…and better to do it while he was wide awake than to have to wake up any earlier than necessary the next morning simply to shave the stubble away.

Or do it half asleep and end up looking like you've put your face through a plate glass window?

…she’d simply smiled before dragging him into it, fully clothed, and turning on the water.

Hee!

He might also have used it to think of Rose when she was out of town, but that was another story (or two, or three...) entirely.

Doing laundry in the shower? The readers approve!

You'd just better watch yourself or one of these days she's going to catch you at it…

…that a flat like hers, with all of the modern amenities, should have something as simple as a heated towel bar, whilst a cottage like his gran’s, with all of the charm of a landmark, should remain unsullied.

Then why aren't you making your coffee in a cast-iron pot in one of the fireplaces? XD

Using such an old-fashioned method of making foam was an odd habit, all things considered-one he had picked up during the brief period of time he and Annie were actually seeing each other while he was at Uni.

So she's officially Annie now. Yays. Has Rose met her yet?

Another legacy from Annie, the silver of the handle was heavy in his hand; she’d given it to him when he graduated Uni, just before he’d moved back to Croy for a bit.

Ooh, nifty. A proper razor, then.

…serving as a reminder that he still had a friend who cared about him, even knowing what his past had been like.

Although it seems like his relative isolation at the start of TWoT that either they haven't talked to each other in a while, or he never really felt comfortable dumping things all over her.

He’d loved her a little bit more when, upon learning who’d given it to him, she’d fought down her uncertainty and smiled, complimenting Annie’s taste with sincerity.

I think it being a gift from someone who actually cares about him makes a big difference. If it had been something from, say, Loreen (not that she'd have that calibre of taste or level of consideration for Peter), then I think Rose would want him to have his head examined.

It boiled down to a simple question, really: Did he trust Rose enough to let her run a razor over his neck?

It's not a straight razor. I hardly think this is about to turn into Sweeney Todd.

The lather soon needed to be refreshed, however, as she shaved much slower than he usually did.

It's that whole no-biofeedback thing.

He handed the bowl back over to her, enjoyed watching her practice, lathering up the brush with glee. She laughed as she brought it to his face, as she lightly daubed his nose before moving to run the brush across his unshaven skin.

He'll be lucky if he doesn't look like a foamy Father Christmas by the time she's done.

Two. :D

That he is. Oh, naughty, naughty Peter.

Because then it just tastes burnt. XD

Not yet--but soon. Probably over the summer, up in Scotland (although not necessarily at the cottage). Rose certainly knows the backstory, though.

he never really felt comfortable dumping things all over her.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Foam fight!

That he is. Oh, naughty, naughty Peter.

Certainly a far cry from Chapter 11: 'I will not think of Rose Tyler while taking a shower. I will not think of Rose Tyler while taking a shower. I will not...' *looks down* 'Oh, damn, I thought of Rose Tyler.' ;P

Because then it just tastes burnt. XD

If he wanted that, he'd just go to Starbucks! :D

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Has that always been the case, or is that something that developed out of him being (too) embarrassed to admit that things weren't going to work out/didn't work out with Loreen?

A word of advice: Quizno's sammies are not meant to be snarfed. I *hurt* now, because I inhaled and giggled at this.

is that something that developed out of him being (too) embarrassed to admit that things weren't going to work out/didn't work out with Loreen?

I don't think it was so much embarassment, as not wanting to be a burden. Although the embarassment and shame certainly figured in, especially once Loreen got him isolated and could really start laying into him.

Laughing good, choking on sandwiches bad. Especially with toasted bread. Sorry 'bout dat!

Particularly given that you've said Annie had kinda hinted at the likely problems already... and then Peter figured he was getting what he deserved? Poor Peter!
