Peter awoke early, consciousness coming to him as though a switch had been thrown. He had been asleep, dreaming about...something involving cars and Pennington and a skein of wool...and then suddenly he was awake, very aware of the woman asleep in his arms, of the chill of the room against his exposed skin.

Even knowing you'd written that, and agreeing with it--the idea didn't consciously play into the writing of this. Bless the subconscious!
Rose is running away from one of his groundings, rejecting him more than she realizes.
*wince* That's bang-on correct.
I'm so glad he had the wit to know she needed a little distance to sort through her emotions.
One of the reason's Peter is so good at his job, is that he's observant, and he's good at reading people (barring Loreen and Natalie). Given time and a little bit of distance, the habits of a career are bound to come into play, and to serve him well.
It's okay to be this vulnerable with Rose (even though it blew up in his face. Just a little. XD)

Maybe this will be something Rose keeps in mind next time they argue?
It's an excellent rule--and one that might ultimately be adoped in the Carlisle/Tyler household. *g*
He's not used to erecting *any* kind of emotional defenses in this place. And he's trying to adapt with Rose, and show her his safe zones, and who he is when he doesn't have to put up a front--but he's not quite used to the translation yet.
He's getting there, slowly.

Although, I'm completely at a loss for how I missed Rose, her fingers slowly sliding through his hair, gently brushing through the strands the first time.

Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorites. Seeing Rose and Peter take such a critical step in their relationship...it's just such a wonderful foundation for the later stories.
