LEXINGTON - Lyssa Rauch, 20, of Lexington, entered into eternal rest January 19, 2006, in Lexington Medical Center, after a 10-month battle with cancer.
Born in Lexington July 2, 1985, Lyssa was the daughter of Holly S. Rauch and Charles O’Brian Rauch. She was a 2003 graduate of White Knoll High School and attended Winthrop University.
An avid fan of marching bands and drum corps, she was a member of the Lexington High School Cat Band Color Guard in 9th grade, and a member of the White Knoll High School Timberwolf Marching Band in 10th through 12th grades, serving as flute section leader, audio-visual librarian, secretary and vice-president, and lettering all four years. She was also a member of the White Knoll High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, and received an excellent rating for three consecutive years in the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival. She played the flute, piccolo and oboe. She also attended the USC Summer Music and Leadership Camp.
At White Knoll High, she was also a member of the Student Government Association, the Drama Club, the Art Council, the Debate Team and the National Thespian Society. During high school she was employed by Sonic Drive-In and BI-LO in West Columbia.
After graduating from White Knoll, Lyssa received the Life Scholarship and attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, majoring in design/technical theater. Her dream was to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching and teach drama to young people at a school for the performing arts. Her inspirations were her drama teachers, art teachers, and her band directors. She was a member of the Winthrop Glee Club, the Winthrop Flute Choir, the Anthology staff, the “Young @ Heart” children’s theatre troupe, and the Terpsichore dance group. She was recently inducted as an honorary member of the Winthrop chapter of Alpha Psi Omega National Honor Society for Excellence in Theatre. Friends and family are encouraged to place a memento or remembrance item into the chest as a tribute to Lyssa. The chest will be buried in her honor in the Rauch family plot at Mount Horeb Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chapin immediately following the memorial service.
