I will roll with the punches and eventually, you will catch me right between the eyes

I never thought there was anything to do in Elmira. And there isn't a whole lot, but this weekend I actually discovered a lot of things around town that I never knew existed. Yesterday I went to an Italian-American festival with Nan and Lindsey at an Italian-American Veteran's clubhouse that is right behind the College that I would have never known about. The food was amazing (I got pasta fazool and sapelas) and the old people dancing to the polka music was adorable. For some uknown reason, Italians love to polka. If you go to any Italian festival, I guarantee that at some point there will be an old man with an accordian and old people dancing like they're 16 years old again. It reminded me of my Bapa when he used to make me dance with him when I was like, 6. I always thought it was really embarassing, but it made me miss him a lot yesterday. I think, however, that the highlight of the festival was running in to the president of my college - I'm pretty sure he had no idea who we were but his wife is really nice so we had fun chatting with her.

Anyway, while looking for directions to the festival, I discovered that on Saturdays during the summer movies are shown at Eldridge Park. This weekend they were showing Shrek, which is one of my favorites. So my friend Sarah and I went and it was so much fun. I'd never been to Eldridge Park before and it's gorgeous. There's an old fashioned carousel that still works and a really pretty lake. I'm really upset I didn't know about this sooner because they've been showing some really good movies and there are only a few more weeks left.

So the moral of the story is that there's a lot more to do in Elmira than I ever thought, I guess none of us at the college have ever been looking.
