Welcome to “The Quiz Show”!
....................
This is a show under the direction of a mysterious host and director. Let’s review its peculiarities and its must-see characteristics!!
1. Peculiar Rules
The fight for a "dream" is on!
The quiz asks a total of 7 questions “pertinent to the contestant.” If the contestant can answer all seven, they will receive a prize of 10 million yen. If they wish, they can instead take a “Dream Chance” question, where, should they succeed, they will be granted any wish they desire.
2. Contestants have a Reason for Being There
There is a reason behind each contestant's appearance on the show.
Contestants are limited to one person a week who receives an invitation from the Guide (Sasai Eisuke) to Ginga TV Station. They may appear to be successful musicians, famous cellphone novelists, and other esteemed figures of society, but in reality, each of their pasts holds the reason for their appearance on the show…
3. Developments occur in Quick Succession!
Is it by accident or on purpose? The mood takes 180-degree turns midway through the show.
The host, Kamiyama, facilitates the show with his smooth-talking skills every time, but midway through the show, everything changes. Ignoring the producer, Saejima’s (Maya Miki) directions, Honma corners the contestants who are avoiding his questions. Panic rages across the set for both producer and contestant!
4. What is the relationship between Honma and Kamiyama?
What’s behind Honma’s control of Kamiyama?
From the quiz show scenes, we jump to a white room where Kamiyama rises from his bed in the midst of a nightmare. His face is lifeless. And standing next to him, watching him, is Honma. What kind of relationship do these two men have? Honma seems to carry a deep and abiding interest in the lost memories of Kamiyama.
5. Memories that are fleetingly recalled…?
Who is the woman in the afterimages of Kamiyama’s memory?
In his fragmented memory, a woman sometimes surfaces. Encircled in his bubble, Kamiyama continues to sink. And then there is the image of him at a campsite. What does the shadow of the woman reflected in the fragments of Kamiyama’s memory have to do with it? The “link” between his past and Honma’s past will draw your attention.
Interview with Sho and Yoko
......................
The “man without a memory”, and the “man who has locked away his heart”
Sakurai: The character I portray is a man without a memory. Only while he’s in The Quiz Show is he lively and energetic. This can be interpreted as a kind of “trance state.”
Yokoyama: My character, Honma, really thinks that he’s a true genius. He believes that he’s the best.
Sakurai: Honma is the only one, really? *[The word “really” here is also “honma”. Sho is making a pun.]
Yoko: (lol) Thank you, Sho-kun.
Sakurai: (smirk) Honma may be a successful man, but he has no sense for real life.
Yoko: He lives in the best part of town and drives a nice car, though. Plus, his whole wardrobe is black. But I hear that at one point, he did wear casual clothing (lol). Something in the past happened to make him lock his heart away.
If the two of us, who are about the same age, were to create a unit together…?!
Sho: This is the first time we’re co-starring in a drama, but we’ve appeared together in radio shows before. Yoko is really funny. He’s a quick thinker… well, his “Line of Defence” against various topics is huge!
Yoko: “Line of Defence” against various topics?! That’s the first time anyone’s told me that, but it makes me happy. (lol)
Sakurai: Even if we’re in the same scene, he can look at a single question from many different perspectives. He’s really a “right to left” sort of person.
Yoko: Sho is amazing when he’s doing a concert with Arashi, too. He can capture each moment of the audience’s emotions completely. He is, so to speak, almost a different kind of species - my complete opposite.
Sakurai: But…we’re about the same age and we lived through the same things, so our general makeup should be about the same. Also, I really love Kanjani 8’s songs. I often hear them.
Yoko: Meaning you often “get to hear” them? (lol)
Sakurai: (lol) At Countdown, when Kanjani 8 comes on, I feel an instance of a ‘festival’ coming on.
Yoko: Well… we seriously want to become Arashi. ‘Cause you guys are just cool.
Sakurai: Really?! But I think that “Festive Power” is something that you guys have.
Yoko: Eh?! So if we were to form a 2-person unit, what sort of songs would we sing?
Sakurai: Even if the two of us were to sing a ballad, it’d slip into a comic short story or something.
Yoko: You mean we’d add just the right amount of humour to it?
Sakurai: We’d do a song that would stay in people’s ears and get a reaction of “Oh, the poor things~ I must support them!” (lol)
The vibrant members of Arashi and Kanjani8
Yoko: Come to think of it, the other day I went out to eat with Nino… and when we were done, we went to a used-book store.
Sakurai: That’s like a highschool-style date! (lol)
Yoko: And then Nino gave me a coupon for the store (smile).
Sakurai: The other day, I ran into Maru (Maruyama) at a restaurant. I was there for a friend’s birthday party, but Maru was passing by and he took a picture for me. He was like, “It’s your camera, but hand it over and I’ll take a picture for you.” Everyone was shocked.
Yoko: Uwaa~ That sounds like him. I’m sorry that had to happen. To apologize, I’ll give you the coupon I got from Nino.
Sakurai: No, thank you~ I’ll pass (lol).
